March 4,
1966 Friday
Weather: cloudy snow temperature at noon 14°F
Up at 6:30
AM dressed, washed, shaved, then looked outside, it's a real blizzard and
snowstorm going and it's a hummer. Winds up to 70 mph, breakfast, phoned Mac,
he's going to try to get in, phoned me back later to say he made it to work. Phoned again
at 3 PM, Max says they may have to stay the night only four got into work. Watched the storm and listened to the radio. Schools all closed and most places of
businesses. Buses for the first time since 1919 have stopped running
completely. The city and the suburbs are like a ghost town, everything has
stopped. Five children were lost at different times during the storm but were
found, city crews called to water main breaks and tough time getting them closed, then Eaton curling rink roof caved-in with the
weight of the snow, had lunch at 12:30 PM then laid down Rhoda came in and we
fooled around a bit, but that's all. Watching the storm and people struggling to
get to the store and back it's really something to see the monster snowdrift
around our house. Must try to get a picture tomorrow if possible. Supper at 5:30
PM talked about the storm that is still going on but the wind has dropped a lot,
time 7:50 PM did writing till about 9:30 PM watched movie on TV till 11pm, had a
beer and crackers and cheese talked with Rhoda went to
bed.
