End of Year, 1962, Variety of small events.

November 13, 1962 Tuesday

Weather: cloudy and cool temperature at noon 30°F
Up at 7 AM, dressed, shaved, washed, breakfast, KR, out in car made usual stops to work, orders till 10, tea, orders till 12, out in car, Home, lunch, took Rhoda to work, Brian's friend Ross Harris started working today putting seals on Number 7 cigarettes, orders till 3 PM, tea, orders till 5 pm, out, took Doreen home, then home, read paper, supper, Rhoda at work, did some things around the house till 9 PM, watched TV till 10:30 pm, Rhoda came home, talked, ate, tea, bed.

November 14, 1962 Wednesday

Weather, cloudy and cool temperature at noon 30°F
Up at 7 AM dressed, breakfast, talked, KR, out in car, usual stops, Ross still helping unloading railcar from Quebec. Orders till 10, tea, orders till 12, out in car to bank then home, lunch, left to work, same as morning till 3 PM, tea, orders till five, I took Doreen home, picked up Rhoda, then home, read paper, supper, Rhoda gone back to work, slept till 7 PM, watched TV most of the night, Rhoda home at 10:20 PM, and ate, bed.

November 15, 1962 Thursday

Weather: cloudy and cool temperature at noon 26°F
Up at 7 AM, dressed, shaved, washed, breakfast, ready, KR, left usual stops, to work, orders till 10 AM, unloading railcars from Quebec. We sure have a heavy stock now, railcar and orders till 1 PM, out to drugstore, got Rhoda, lunch, read, left, took Rhoda and Linda to Deer Lodge bus stop, slippery and freezing rain, Rhoda didn't want the car, to work, orders till 3 PM Jake McIver Mac's son fired, N. Nadurak transferred to Dauphin, or else fired, Lyle transferred to Fort William and  J. Moorhead brought to Winnipeg. What's going on in the company, anyways? I hope, they never start on the warehouse, out at 5 PM, home, read paper, Rhoda home at 6:30 PM, supper, top, watch TV the rest of the evening, bed at 11:30 PM.

November 16, 1962 Friday

Weather: partly cloudy and cool temperature at noon 24°F
Up at 7 AM, dressed, shaved, washed, breakfast, ready, KR, out usual stops, to work, orders till 10, orders till 1 PM, out to drugstore, got Rhoda, home, lunch, left back to work, nothing doing till 4 PM, swept floor and other things, out at 5 PM, took Doreen home, then home, in read paper, supper, dozed, washed and changed, Rhoda and I out to Westwood Collegiate, saw Linda and others receive their grade 11 and 12 Matriculation, listen to some speeches, One was a real good one, left there at 9 PM, downtown, parked on Garry Street, to bowling alleys, bowled only two games, out to car, home at 11:05 PM talked with Rhoda, told her that Jack can't bowl because of a league rule, ate, bed.

November 17, 1962 Saturday

Weather: cloudy and cold temperature at noon 24°F
Up at 8:20 AM, dressed, washed, breakfast, Chris has his friend Donny here for the night, talked, down in basement and worked at building a place for the dog under the stairs. at 10:30 AM, out in car, to IGA, did shopping, home, put groceries away, worked in basement till noon, up, lunch, then watched football game on TV till 3:30 PM. Hamilton won, read paper, then watched football game on TV till 5:30 PM Calgary won, supper, Rhoda gone to work, slept till 8 PM watch TV, hockey game, did writing till 10:30 PM, Rhoda home, read, bed.

November 18, 1962 Sunday

Weather: cloudy temperature at noon 30°F

Up at 8:30 AM dressed washed breakfast, talked down stairs to basement, most of the morning, up at 1 PM, lunch, did different things all day brought my car book up-to-date and correct, read, talked most of the afternoon, supper, TV, all evening, bed 11 PM.

Up at 7 AM dressed, shaved, washed, breakfast, talked, ready, KR, out in car usual stops, to work, in, orders till 10 AM, out in car to drugstore, got Rhoda, home, lunch, left to work at 1:50 PM, Rhoda gone with car, in, orders, tea, orders till 5 PM, Rhoda came, took Doreen home, then home, in, supper, read paper, dozed till 7 PM, Rhoda and Linda gone to Children's Hospital to see Barbie, it's her Birthday, three years old today, I watched TV till 9:30 PM, Rhoda and Linda back, raining heavy, TV till 11:30 PM, bed.

December 1, 1962 Saturday My Birthday 53 yrs young

Weather: cloudy and mild, temperature at noon 34°F

Up at 7:30 AM, dressed, washed, fooled around, out started car, let it run, Rhoda ready, started to take her to work then decided it wasn't so slippery so she took the car, left me at home, watched Grey Cup Parade on TV, Jack and Joan are here, watched Grey Cup Game on TV till 3 PM when they had to postpone the game on account of fog, there was nine minutes and 29 seconds left to play it will be played on Sunday - Winnipeg 28 Hamilton 27, so far, Rhoda home, supper, birthday cake and gifts, slippers from Jack, Square for measuring from Linda and gloves from Rhoda, talked, played with boys downstairs,  watched hockey game on TV then we played cards till 10:30 PM took our car out to let Jack out, put the car back in they are gone, talk, bed.

December 2, 1962  Sunday

Weather: sunny, temperature at noon 32 F
up at 8:30am dressed, lip sore, washed breakfast, talked, did writing til 12, watched the finish of the football game on TV, Final Score, Wpg 28, Hamilton 27, dozed for awhile, up, lunch, Dave and Bett here and left kids here while they went to see Barbie at Children's Hospital.  Dave brought me new rabbit ears for TV but found it still wasn't enough, talked, supper, dozed, Dave & Bett back & stayed til 10:30pm, went out and plugged car in, they are gone, TV then bed, slept.        

 December 8, 1962 Saturday

Weather: cloudy, temperature at noon 19°F
Up at 7 AM dressed, washed, breakfast, talk, Rhoda and I left at 8:30 AM, downtown, to Eaton's, parked in Parkade, into store, shopped, got things for Chris, Gerry, Heather, Cathy, out to IGA got groceries, home 11:35 AM. Put stuff away, lunch, took Rhoda it to work, back to IGA, finished shopping, home, put stuff  in and away, lay down, slept till 3 PM, up watched TV till 4pm, read paper, out to drugstore, picked up Rhoda, home, supper, took Rhoda back to work, home, washed dishes, watched TV till 10, out to drugstore and got Rhoda, home, ate, bed.

December 9, 1962 Sunday

Weather: cloudy and cold temperature at noon 21°F
Up at 8 AM, dressed, washed, breakfast, did a few things, out at 10:35 AM, took Linda and boys to church, home, started to put up Christmas lights around the front window, did that till 12, out, to church and picked up Linda and boys, home, lunch, out at 12:45 PM Took Rhoda to work, home, car sluggish, plugged car in, dozed for a while, finished lights around the window, out at 4:50 PM to drugstore, got Rhoda, Home, supper, Rhoda gone back to work with car, washed dishes, watched TV till 8:30 PM Rhoda home, TV til 11 PM, ate, and bed.

December 10, 1962 Monday

Weather: clear and cold temperature at noon -6F
Up at 6 AM to bathroom, put switch on for car, back to bed up at 7 AM dressed washed then tea, listened to radio, out at 7:45 AM, Took five minutes to get the car started, let car run for 10 minutes, out, in car, usual stops, to work, in, orders till 10, tea, orders till 12, out in car, home, lunch, read, talked, took Rhoda to the drugstore then to work, in, orders till 3:30 PM, tea, orders till 5 PM, out in car, took Doreen home, then home, car very sluggish when cold as usual, in, supper, slept till 630, watched TV till 730, washed dishes, then watched TV till 945 out to drugstore to pick up Rhoda and Linda, took Ida home, home, in, ate, talked, bed.

December 14, 1962 Friday

Weather: mild, temperature at noon 16°F
Up at 7 AM, dressed, shaved, washed, breakfast, left at 7:50 AM to Doreen's, then to post office, then to work, orders till 10, tea, orders till 12, out in car, home, read, lunch, took Rhoda to work, then to work, helped unloading trailer from Quebec til 3PM, tea, orders till 5PM, out in car, took Doreen home, to drugstore at 5:20 PM picked up Rhoda, home, read paper, supper, took Rhoda back to work, home, slept till 7 PM, had a bath, shaved, gave orders to the boys, left at 8:10 PM, picked up Eileen, downtown, parked on Garry Street, walked to bowling alleys, bowled good, out in car, dropped Eileen at home, to home, talk, ate, TV, I am very much fed up with everything, especially of Rhoda's attitude towards everything, finally got to sleep.

December 15, 1962 Saturday

Weather: cloudy and mild, temperature at noon 24°F
Up at 3 AM to bathroom, back to bed, slept till 8 AM, dressed, washed, breakfast, Rhoda gone to work, Linda stayed at Bett's all night, cleaned up the hallway and kitchen, phoned Linda about ordering a steam iron from Ashdown's, did some writing, did some other things, Rhoda home at 12:50 PM, lunch, talked, took Rhoda to work, home, phoned Jack about a few things, slept part of the afternoon, read paper, out at 4 PM, did some shopping downtown, got groceries, to drugstore to pick up Rhoda, home, supper, took her back to work, slept, watched TV, out to pick up Rhoda, she takes the cake, took Ida home, then home, hot Cocoa then to bed.

May 17, 1971 Monday

Up at 7:50 AM, dressed, shaved, breakfast, talked, listen to radio till 8 AM, KR, out in car to post office then to work, in, orders and trailer till 10:30 AM, tea, same till 12 pm. In car to Electrolux store paid payment, home, lunch, left back to work, orders till 3:30 PM, tea, same till 4:30 PM out in car, put mail in box, then to Zellers and picked up Rhoda, home, supper, Mr. Morris here, paid him $50 and he signed the paper, he's gone, out, took Rhoda back to work, home, laid down, slept till 8 PM, read paper, washed dishes, then out to Zellers to get Rhoda, home, had tea and cookies, bed.

May 18, 1971 Tuesday

Up at 2:30 AM to bathroom, back to bed, slept till 7 AM, dressed, shaved, washed, breakfast, listen to radio till 8 AM, KR, out in car to post office then to work did orders till 10:30 AM, they are now making a sliding door entrance to the north wall of our warehouse and the addition we have taken over, tea, same till 12, out in car, Home, lunch, read paper, back to work orders till 3:30 PM tea, orders till 4:20 PM put skids in front of door, left, put mail in box, took Paula home, to bakery got bread, home, talked, read paper, out at 5:50 PM to Zellers to pick up Rhoda, home talked, cleared table, supper, watched the hockey game until 10:15 PM score Chicago 2, Montreal 3, Montreal wins the Stanley Cup in seven games, Rhoda gone to bed, tea and cookies, then locked up and went to bed

May 19, 1971 Wednesday

Up at 7:05 AM, dressed, washed, breakfast, listen to radio, KR, out in car to post office, to work, in,  orders till 10:30 AM, tea, orders till 12, out in car, home, lunch, dozed, KR, left to work orders till 3:30 PM, coffee break, orders till 4:30 PM got mail, in car, took Paula home, to Zellers picked up Rhoda, home, set table, supper, out in car, Took Rhoda to work, home, lay down, slept till 6:30 PM, everyone is out, washed dishes, outside and dug up 2 flowerbeds at back, trimmed the grass in front, swept sidewalk, in, did writing, put books away, read till 9:40 PM, out in car, to Zellers, waited for Rhoda, home, read all evening, tea and bread, bed.

May 20, 1971 Thursday

Weather: cloudy and cool, temperature at noon 52°F
Up once in the night to the bathroom, slept till 6:50 AM, dressed, shaved, washed, breakfast, listen to radio, out at 8 AM, in car to post office to work, orders till 10:30AM, tea, same till 12, they now have the sliding door cut in the wall and ready to put the door onto the addition to the warehouse. Out in car, home, lunch, talked with Rhoda, her day off, KR, left, stopped at bank of Montreal, to work, orders till 3:30 PM, tea, orders till 4:15 PM put skids it in front of doors, talked with Mac, Rhoda was waiting at the car, she had been swimming with Bett and the kids today, took Paula home, set the table, supper, read, dozed till 7 PM, outside and planted Gladiolas and Dahlias, I don't expect the Dahlias to grow, they are too dry, put tools away, in, read till 6 PM had TN bed then went to bed.

May 21, 1971 Friday

Weather: fair and warmer, temperature at noon 58°F
Up at 6:50 AM dressed, shaved, breakfast, talk, called Gerry, he is going to work today in the warehouse. I get to teach him the ropes. Listen to radio till 8 AM out in car, Gerry with me, to post office, to work,  showed Gerry warehouse and got him started on orders, I did re packs and trailer what a mess with Don walking around and other things, orders till 10:30 AM, tea, same till 12, out in car, home, lunch, talked with Chris, read, left with Gerry, to work, in, orders and such till 3:30 PM, tea, same till 4:30 PM got cigs, talked with Mac, left, put mail in box, home. Chris has left to hitchhike with his girlfriend to Banff, he left a letter, hope he makes out okay, but because of Rhoda and I riding him, he left, but I think he would have left anyways, his letter sure hurt my feelings I wonder in what way we failed him. He will be back someday. It may do him a lot of good, going out on his own.

Sat around, cleared table, out in car to Zellers Rhoda came to Dominion Store got groceries, home, put stuff away, cleared and set the table.  Rhoda talked about Chris, now she's in the dumps, supper, dozed in my chair, talked a little, bed.

May 22, 1971 Saturday

Weather: cloudy and cool, temperature at noon 44°F
Up at 7:40 AM, dressed, washed, breakfast, out at 8:50 AM, took Rhoda to work went to Paint Your World, got a gallon of white and a brush, home, Mac phoned, dozed, ate, left a note for Gerry, went to warehouse, put Imperial Tobacco orders away, straightened stack, put up orders, left at 1:05 PM, home, lunch, read, lay down, read paper, stirred paint and painted till 5:50 PM, out in car to Zellers, got Rhoda, home, cleared and set table, supper, sat a while and dozed, Gerry gone out, finished painting bedroom cupboard, put stuff away, talked with Rhoda, had tea and bread, then went to bed.

May 23, 1971 Sunday

Weather: partly cloudy and cool temperature at noon 45°F
Up at 3 AM to bathroom, Gerry never came home, turned lights out, went back to bed, slept till 8 AM, up, dressed, Gerry came in,  went downstairs, vomited, he has been at a party and stayed there, he says. Rhoda mad at me about it. Gerry not feeling very good and went to bed, I slept in chair till 10:30 AM, tea, checked bills and did some writing until 12:05 PM, put books away, talked, lunch, mixed paint, put one coat in cupboard shelves in our room. Sat around I had a talk with Gerry about drinking, told him to be very careful, tea, put second coat on cupboard shelves, looks okay, pulled out my writing cupboard, took all the stuff out, then painted the inside, read and talked, out in car with Rhoda for a ride drove down Sturgeon Road north to number 221 E., Inkster Boulevard east to McPhillips Street then south and stopped for ice cream at St. Joseph's Dairy then continued south to Notre Dame, and west to St. James Street stopped and looked at all the trailers at our warehouse then to Portage Avenue and home. In, talked, read till 11:30 PM then bed.

May 24, 1971 Monday Victoria Day

Weather: cloudy and cool,  temperature at noon 43°F
Slept till 9 AM, dressed, shaved, washed, breakfast, out at 9:45 AM in car Rhoda and I to Morey Boulevard saw parade, to Ness, West, parked in Safeway lot, waited till 10:30 AM, parade going by, finished at 11 AM, went home, lunch, then out to Zellers, bought a few things, home, tried on my new golf jacket, Linda and Phil and the boys are here, supper, they left at 9 PM, I put up the cupboard with Gerry's help, put stuff in it, then did writing, read, then had tea, then bed.

The March 4th Storm 1966 and Bett's 28th Birthday

February 27, 1966 Sunday

Weather: clear and mild temperature at noon +28°F
Up at 6:50 AM to bathroom, back to bed, slept till 8:45 AM breakfast, talked, then tried to fix back door handle and lock, can't be done, so will have to buy a new one, put tools away, read then fixed a hanger for Linda, read, lunch at 12:30 PM, laid down had a sleep till 2:15 PM, read. Then went out and shoveled hard snow from the driveway for an hour Rhoda came out and took a picture of the dog and me. Went inside then wrote letters to different provinces for travel information. Supper, dozed till 6 PM in chair, got up, washed, changed pants, out in car with Linda, Rhoda, Gerry, and the dog Casey, to Grace Hospital nurses residences, got Linda's stuff, then went to Bett's on Bannatyne, Linda and Rhoda and dog went in, we were there till 7:20 PM, left and drove to Selkirk Mental Hospital by 8:05 PM Linda will be working there for three months. Said our goodbyes, left drove south on 9A to Lockport over bridge and south on number nine highway to Kimberly to Mum's, in visited there till 9:30 PM, in car and to home by 10:15, bed 11:20 PM

February 28, 1966 Monday

Up at 6:45 AM dressed, washed, breakfast, listen to radio, out at 7:30 AM started car, took Rhoda to work then to post office and onto to work. Orders till 10:30 AM coffee break, orders till 12, out in car, home, lunch, talked with Gerry who is still home from school, left to go back to work orders till 3:30 PM, tea break, orders till 4:30 PM out in car, home, read paper, supper, Rhoda very irritatable and miserable these days, dozed the in chair till 6:45 PM, help with dishes, straightened part of basement did some writing till 10 PM Rhoda gone to bed I read rest of the evening till 11 PM bed

March 1, 1966 Tuesday

Up at 6:45 AM, dressed, shaved, washed, breakfast, listen to radio started car, left at 7:45 AM, took Rhoda to work then to post office then to my work, orders and stock till 10:30 AM, tea, Mr. Lloyd in town, orders till 12:10pm, out in car, home, lunch, talked to Gerry, he is going to school this afternoon, out in car back to work. Orders till 3 PM, tea, orders till 4 PM, organizing stock till 7:15 PM, out in car, home, supper, read paper, laid on Chesterfield and dozed for a while, Rhoda went and laid on Chesterfield so I did writing till 10:15 PM had tea and bread then to bed.

March 2, 1966 Wednesday

Weather: partly cloudy and mild temperature at noon 8°F

Up at 6:40 AM, dressed, washed, breakfast, listen to radio, went out and started car, Rhoda got dog back she had let him out loose this morning, Took Rhoda to work then to post office and to work orders till 10:30 AM, tea, orders till 12, out in car, home, lunch, both boys gone to school, left a note for Rhoda, in car to work after going to the bank, orders till 3:15pm. We heard that Francis Lovatt has quit after a row,  after all these years, orders and other things till 4:40 PM, out in car, Home, supper, got a letter from Linda already, read it, pretty amusing, dozed in chair, Rhoda writing a letter back, time 8:30 PM writing journal till 10 PM had tea and toast, bed.

March 3, 1966 Thursday

Weather: Cloudy blowing snow, temperature at noon 11°F
Up at 6:35 AM shaved and washed, breakfast, after getting ready listen to radio till 7:35 AM started car, KR, left to post office then to work, orders till 10:30 AM, orders till 11:50 AM, out in car, home, lunch, talked with boys, left to go back to work, orders till 2:40 PM tea break, orders till 4:30 PM, out in car to bakery, talked with Rhoda, went to IGA, waited for Rhoda, then home, read paper, supper, laid down, tried to sleep, can't, talked with Rhoda and read the paper, watched TV till 11 PM tea and bread, no fun from Rhoda so went to sleep.

March 4, 1966 Friday

Weather: cloudy snow temperature at noon 14°F

Up at 6:30 AM dressed, washed, shaved, then looked outside, it's a real blizzard and snowstorm going and it's a hummer.  Winds up to 70 mph, breakfast, phoned Mac, he's going to try to get in, phoned me back later to say he made it to work. Phoned again at 3 PM, Max says they may have to stay the night only four got into work. Watched  the storm and listened to the radio. Schools all closed and most places of businesses. Buses for the first time since 1919 have stopped running completely. The city and the suburbs are like a ghost town, everything has stopped. Five children were lost at different times during the storm but were found, city crews called to water main breaks and tough time getting them closed, then Eaton curling rink roof caved-in with the weight of the snow, had lunch at 12:30 PM then laid down Rhoda came in and we fooled around a bit, but that's all. Watching the storm and people struggling to get to the store and back it's really something to see the monster snowdrift around our house. Must try to get a picture tomorrow if possible. Supper at 5:30 PM talked about the storm that is still going on but the wind has dropped a lot, time 7:50 PM did writing till about 9:30 PM watched movie on TV till 11pm, had a beer and crackers and cheese talked with Rhoda went to bed.

Linda's Graduation -- February 2, 1964 to February 7, 1964

February 2, 1964 Sunday

Weather: mild, temperature at noon +18°F
Up at 8:30 A.m. Dressed, washed, breakfast, talked, worked in basement most of morning, lunch 12:30 PM, dozed a while, did some more work in the basement at 5 PM supper talk slept and did a little more in basement and watch TV, snack, bed, 11 PM

February 3, 1964 Monday

Weather: mild temperature at noon +26°F
Up at 7 AM, dressed, shaved, washed, breakfast, started car, KR,  left at 7:45 AM to post office then to work, orders and trailer till 10:30am, tea, same till noon, home, Rhoda started work at a bakery today, Granny's Kitchen on Portage Avenue. Just boys and I here for lunch from now on. Linda here too, left to work after taking Linda to bus stop. Loading trailers till 3:30 PM had tea, trailers until 4:30 PM left at 5 PM home, supper, painted till 10:30 PM ate, talked,bed.

February 4, 1964 Tuesday

Up at 6:50 AM, dressed, shaved, washed, breakfast, left at 7:45 to post office then to work orders till 10:30 AM cup of tea, same till 12, home, lunch with boys, left to work at 1:05 PM orders till 3:30 PM, tea, orders till five, home, read paper, supper, overtime work, orders till 8 PM, painted till 10 PM, left for home, talk, TV bed. Rhoda mad at me so I slept.

February 5, 1964 Wednesday

Up at 6:35 AM, dressed, shaved, washed, breakfast, talked, started car, did some writing, till 7:30 AM, took garbage out, left at 7:50 to post office then to work orders till 10:30 AM, tea, orders till 12, out in the car and home, made lunch for Gerry and I, left at 12:50 PM to work orders till 3:30pm, tea, orders till five, out in car to Whytewold Dr., got Rhoda at Granny's Kitchen then to Tomboy store and got groceries. Home, put stuff away, supper, man here to talk about funeral, arrangements in the future, but I could not be bothered, dozed the in chair, he's gone now, it's snowing and blowing out I and Rhoda sat and talked, watched hockey game till 9 PM. Talked till 10, ate, and so to bed.

February 6, 1964 Thursday

Up at 6:45 AM, dressed, washed, breakfast, started car, in, tea, left at 7:50 AM to post office then to work orders till 10:30am, cuppa coffee, Brian did trailer, orders till 12, out in car. Home, lunch, left back to work, orders till 3:30, coffee break, orders till 5 PM, out to bakery got Rhoda, Home, read paper, supper, worked around in the basement all evening, watch TV, talked, bed, did some loving.

February 7, 1964 Friday

Weather: cloudy and colder temperature at noon -3°F
Up at 6:50 AM, dressed, washed, breakfast, I don't feel so good, sort of tired and sluggish, started car, KR, left at 7:50 AM to post office then to work. loaded city trucks then entered sales figures and averages in books, wrapped parcels, did stock taking until 10:30 AM left at 11:40 AM in car to barber shop for haircut then to drugstore and bought film for camera, met Linda, home, lunch, back to work at 12:50 PM, orders till 3:30 PM. Coffee break, orders till five, out in car, home, out in car to pick up Rhoda, home, supper, no bowling tonight, because of Linda getting her Nurse's cap, which I had to see, shaved and washed, changed, out at 7:10 PM to Home St., Church of Christ, parked car, got seats and watched the nurses get their caps including Linda. Very nice but not too impressive. Met Buelah and Jessie there and Mum there. We all went to the nurses residence for tea and stuff and looked around, Rhoda took pictures of Linda and her friends. Left there at 10:30 PM took Buelah and Jessie home, then home ourselves, boys still up, Rhoda gone to bed, I and boys watched TV til 1 am.

January 18, 1966 Tuesday

Up at 7 AM, dressed, feel better, but tough, shaved, washed, breakfast,  listened to radio, talk till 7:50 AM started car, KR, left at 8:10 AM to post office, to work, orders till 10:30 AM,tea, orders till 12, out in car, Home, lunch, talk, Linda gone to Bett's, left back to work, orders till 3:45 PM, out in car, home, read paper, supper, lay down, dozed til 7:30 PM, talked with Rhoda while she played with Piano organ, did writing in new book, time 9:15 PM, then out, started car took Linda back to nurse's residence, pretty slippery driving, home by 10:15 PM tea and cake, talked, bed

January 19, 1966 Wednesday 

Weather clear cloudy mild temperature at noon 2°F
Up at 7:10 AM, started the car, breakfast, talk, radio, KR, out at 7:55 AM to post office, to work, orders till 10:15 AM tea, orders till 12, out in car, home, lunch, talked, back to work, orders till 3:30 PM, tea, orders till 5 PM, out in the car to drugstore, got a birthday card and money order, Home, read paper, supper, talk laid down, up, I played with organ till 9 PM had tea and cake, then bed.

January 20, 1966 Thursday
Weather: cold temperature at noon -20°F

Up at 7 AM, direct, shaved, washed, breakfast, listen to radio till 7:50 AM started car left to post office, then to work orders till 10:30 AM, coffee, orders till 12. Out in car, to home lunch, talked, left back to work, orders till three, lots of talk going around about new warehouse hours to be 8 AM to 4:30 PM. Mac is to be the only one having keys to the warehouse that will be fun for him. Orders till 5pm, out in car to home in and read the paper supper, lay down, slept till 7:30 PM, talked, listen to radio and played crib rest of the evening Rhoda one had tea and ate some cookies, talked, then to bed.

January 21, 1966 Friday
Weather: clear and cold -25°F

Up at 7 AM, washed, breakfast, talked, listen to radio,at 7:50 AM went out to car but car won't start, phone service station he came but no go, he pushed the car, and it started, to work by 9 AM, orders till 10:30 AM, tea, orders till noon lots of talk about the new warehouse out in the car and home for lunch talk to Rhoda then back to work, orders till three coffee break orders till 5 PM out in car to IGA, got a few groceries, Home, in for supper. Laid down, up at 7pm, changed and washed, out with Rhoda at 8:20pm to bowling alley downtown. Rhoda gone with car, bowled poor again, Rhoda was waiting to pick me up, home, talk, bed.

January 22, 1966 Saturday
weather: clear and cold -25°F

Up at 7:15 AM, dressed, washed, breakfast, Rhoda up, talked and ready to go at 8:20 AM, car started, went to service station and left the car there walked to barbers for a haircut, back to service station and waited for car till 10:20 AM out and home. Decided to do shopping out in car at 11:15 AM to Simpson Sears, then down St. James Street and looked at new warehouse. Then to IGA on portage Avenue did shopping, home, put stuff away man from Eaton's was here to fix organ. Lunch, talk, slept till 3 PM, fooled with organ for a while, had supper, dozed in chair till 7:30 PM, watched hockey game till 9:30 PM ate, talked, bed.

January 23, 1966 Sunday
Weather: clear and cold temperature at noon -30°F

Up at 8 AM, breakfast, took Rhoda a cup of tea in bed, Sat around for a while, tried car, no go, tried car again, no dice, got books and will do writing, will try car again later, tried car at 10:45 AM finally got it started, let it run for 10 minutes then Rhoda and I out to Portage West on Portage to the Perimeter South to number 3 hwy and east to Waverley then Taylor and back to Portage Avenue thence home. Lunch, locked up the car, fixed a few things around the house, had a slip and fall had supper at 6 PM, talked, watch TV and other things all evening, ate, tea, and bed. I

January 24, 1966 Monday
Rhoda's Birthday
weather: clear and cold -25°F

Up at 6:30 AM, dressed, shaved, washed, breakfast, out and tried car, no go. Came in and phone service station, Brian at work phone about work orders, service station truck is here and can't start the car, he said he would come back and tow me in, which he did after I phoned him, he came and got the car started and they left. Rhoda ranting and raving and about the service station and that they shouldn't charge me and such. I let the car run for 15 minutes and got to work by 11 AM did orders till 12:10 PM had lunch talked with the guys did orders till 3 PM. Had coffee did orders till 5 PM took car to the service station and put a new block heater cord and installed went home read paper, Rhoda phoned, went to pick up Rhoda and stopped at the bakery for cake for her birthday, I couldn't get a dog for her birthday like she wanted. She got ten birthday cards she got birthday card from her mom and a plant from Joan and Jack. all in all she had a very nice birthday bed at 11:30 PM. P.S. Linda phoned to say she would be home Tuesday night.

January 25, 1966 Tuesday
Weather: -15°F

Up at 6:40 AM, dressed, breakfast, shaved, talked and listen to the radio until 7:50 AM. Started car came back in for a cup of tea went out in the car to post office then to work. Orders till 10:30 AM coffee break and orders till 12 out into car went home had lunch. Took Rhoda to work at 12:45pm, back to work orders till 3:30 PM tea break orders till 5 PM out in car home, dozed, out at 6:40 PM to bakery and picked up Rhoda back home and supper dozed till 9:30 PM not feeling good, and we drove Linda to the nurse's residence, came home had a snack, went to bed.
