Rhoda still up, talked, washed, had tea & cake, then bed.

April 4, 1968 Thursday Temp at noon+27 milder

up at 6am, to bathroom, back to bed, did some petting, I can't get no satisfaction, up, washed, breakfast, talked, KR, out in car to PO, to work, trailer til 10:30, tea, trailer til 12, out in car, home, lunch, read, to service station, gas and oil, to work, trailer til 3:30, finished, tea, taking stock til 4:30, out in car to PO and CNIB, got Rhoda, to Economart, then home, put stuff away, laid down and slept til 8pm, Rhoda gone to Lodge, played 4 games of table tennis with boys, lost all, fixed up table for Gerry's Party tomorrow. heard on news that Dr. Martin Luther King, great Negro leader was assinated tonight, died in hospital. Did writing til about writing, no hockey game on cause of Liberal rally, did more writing til 9pm, then hockey came on part way through watched til 10:40, read, tea and donuts, Rhoda home, bed. We changed sides of bed to sleep on & I don't seem to be resting as well.

April 5, 1968 Friday Temp at noon +33F sunny, milder

up 6:45 dressed, shaved, washed, breakfast and talked, listened to radio til 8, KR, out in car to PO, to work, orders til 10:30, tea, orders til 12, out in car, home, read, lunch, left to Dusbane Products on Madison Ave, picked up a squeegee for cleaning windows at warehouse, got other cleaning things, to work, cleaned office windows, cold wind out, changed water three times, did not do as good a job if it had been warmer out, put stuff away, orders til 3:30, tea, orders til 4:30, out in car to PO, to CNIB got Rhoda, home, in read paper, supper, dozed & sat, in chair, Kids from Gerry's room at school arrived for party they are having here tonight, played Crib and chinese checkers and talked with Rhoda upstairs while kids were downstairs, the kids seemed to have a good time, made alot of noise but behaved themselves very well, all gone by 11pm, ate, talked, bed, slept.

April 6, 1968 Saturday Temp at noon +38F partly cloudy mild

up at 6am, to bathroom, back to bed til 8:30, breakfast, KR, Rhoda gone to work in car, read for awhile, read mail, cleared table then did writing til 11am, fixed up a few things, had lunch, laid down for awhile til 3pm, did different things, it is windy out, read paper, Rhoda home at 5:30, helped her bring in some groc's and put it away, talked, read, in car to Betts at 6:40, talked, took Bett to hosp to get Cathy who got her tonsils out on Thursday, talked while Bett got Cathy ready to go, took Bett home and Cathy came with us, home, watched hockey game, score Montreal 5 Boston 3, talked about race riots in USA caused by negros after Luther King's assination wondered if such a thing would happen here, but decided not enough of them here to cause that kind of trouble, read some, bed.

April 7, 1968 Sunday Temp at noon +32F cloudy and cool

up at about 8:30am, to bed, Cathy kept knocking at door so that was that, but I guess she is just a kid and not much for a kid here, up, dressed, washed, breakfast, read, fooled around doing a few things, showed Cathy tools in basement, lunch, talked, went outside and washed car, Cathy helped, Rhoda vacuumed inside, finished, still pretty cool out, came in put things away, read, supper, talked, shaved & washed & changed, out at 6:45, Cathy with us to Jack's via St. Boniface, there at 7:10pm, walked around yard with Jack, looking at his work on gardens and lawn, went inside, sat around all evening had 2 beers and chips, left at 10:30, home via Disraili, Main and down Portage, in, got Cathy to bed, talked, tea and toast, and so to bed at about 11:30pm.

up at 6:40, snowing out, dressed, washed, then ate, listened to radio, started car, cleaned snow off of it, back in til 7:55, talked, KR, left to PO, to work, orders and trailer til 10:30, tea, same til 12, out in car, home, lunch, read, back to work, same as morning, finished trailer at 3, tea at 3:30, orders til 4:30, out in car to PO and CNIB, got Rhoda and she tells me no work tomorrow because of some boss died, home, read paper, supper, laid down and slept til 7:30, watched hockey game for awhile, Montreal 5 Boston 3, looked at diary years of 1942 to 1944 to find out when Bett had her tonsils out, can't find it because I threw out some things from those years due to Alberts indiscretions, did some writing til 10:30, put books away, had tea and bread, talked, bed, we petted for awhile, then went to sleep.

up at 6:45am, dressed, shaved, & washed, make my own breakfast cause Rhoda is staying in bed cause she doesn't have to go to work today, listened to radio, KR, out in car to PO, to work, in, orders and a trailer til 10:30, tea, same til 12, out in car, home, read, had lunch, left back to work trailer til 3, finished orders at 4:30, out in car to PO and home, talked, read paper, supper, laid down and dozed, up, out, cleaned up front lawn and boulevard lawn and flower beds, loads of rubbish, boys were supposed to help but didn't do much, put tools away, brought in snow shovels, talked, read, played chinese crib til 10:40, Rhoda watching TV, had tea and bread, then went to bed. KR, slept.

pu at 6:40 dressed, washed, breakfast, talked, radio, KR, left at 8 to PO, to work, orders til 10:30, tea, orders til 12, out in car to bank, home, in, lunch, read, left to service station, gas, to work and orders til 2:30, Bryan gone to Regina, tea, fooled around, read and other things, Mac out with Bouncey to get car, not back, phoned Rhoda, then they finally got back at 5:50, locked warehouse, left to PO to CNIB then to IGA and bakery, home, talked about the woman and man that were murdered on Hwy 59 last Sunday, no clues to murderer as yet, supper, read, laid down, slept Rhoda fooling around then tells me she has started, so that is that, slept til 7:30, up, everyone has gone out, Boys and Rhoda back, read, til 9pm, put bread away, did writing til 10:30, put books away, read, ate, talked, then to bed.

up about 8:30, dressed, washed, breakfast, talked, read, fooled around doing different things all morning, lunch at 1pm, laid down for awhile, slept, then out and raked and cleaned up front yard as far as back of house on one side, put tools away, in read paper, supper, dozed, talked, did not do much of anything all evening,, bed, slept

April 13, 1968 Saturday Temp at noon +48F cloudy, cooler

up at 8, dressed, washed, breakfast, talked & we decided I would take Rhoda to work, left at 9, to CNIB, left to barbers, haircut, home, read, fooled around most of morning, doing a few things, also played chinese crib til 12:30, lunch, read, laid down and slept til 2:30, up and out to clean up some more of yard, family next door get to be a nuisance of themselves now the warm weather has come, wish they would move out., read paper, out at 4:30 to CNIB to get R, to Economart, got groc's, home, put stuff in and away, talked, read paper, supper, dozed, Eleanor phoned and asked if we would like to meet them at the Legion, said OK, out with Rhoda and I in ghe car, to KMart, bought a few things & roses with little white flowers for Mum for Easter, home, put stuff in, went looking for keys but didn't find them so left to go to St. James Legion, found Art & Eleanor, in and had a few beers and talked, then we came home with them and talked and tea, and such, they left at 1:30am, told us about the trip they are going on to London England, leaving on May 15, leaving family to look after themselves, risky thing for them to do, talked, bed.

April 14, 1968 Sunday Temp at noon +42F clear and cold

Rhoda woke me up, fooling around but couldn't get interested, up, to bathroom, to bed and slept til 8:30, washed, breakfast, read, talked, out in car at 11, to Bett's left chocolates and things with kids cause Bett was still sleep and as usual Dave was not there, left to go to Jack's, with Easter things for Randy, talked and wandered around in Jack's yard, very nice, had a snack and tea and left there to go to Donalda st, picked up a baby bed for Linda, then to Mums, gave her the gift of roses, talked and then left, home by 2pm, lunch, laid down, talked, read, then supper, talked, straighted up hall rug and cut a piece off so it would lay even, read, listened to radio rest of evening, went to bed about 11pm

April 15, 1968 Monday Temp at noon +50F clear and warm

up at 3am to bathroom, vomited, to bed, slep on and of til 9, up, washed, breakfast, talked, then out and raked backyard with boys, and burnt some of the rubbish, Rhoda came out, and talked and finished raking, then we played crochet with boys, I won 4, Gerry 2 and Chris 1, Rhoda lost everytime. she says she was not feeling good, talked, had lunch, read, laid down and slept til 4pm, out in car, Rhoda and I to place on Ness Ave to buy cloth for a dress she wants to make, then to place on Main St, near Logan, for more cloth, then home, in, read, supper, laid down at 7, don't feel so good cause of stomach acting up, washed Rhoda's hair, then got ready, shaved, washed, dressed, sat around til 7:30, out to corner bus, downtown to beer parlour, and to bowling alley, bowled very poor, out to corner bus and home, Rhoda still up, talked, ate and played records, then bed.

So another Easter is finished, Also this is Rhoda's and mine anniversary 34 years since we first went out together. up at 7:15, dressed, washed, feel fair, but not tops yet, breakfast, talked, KR, left at 7:55 to PO to work, trailer til 10:30, tea, new girl stared today in office, short skirts and fair body, trailer til 12, out in car, home, lunch, left to bank, to work, trailers til 3:30, and fixed stock til 4:30, in car to PO and CNIB, to get Rhoda and then home, Linda here & staying a few days, talked, supper, laid down, slept, up and talked, did writing in basement til 10, up for tea and cake, bed, did some loving, slept, Rhoda woke me up to tell the boys to get to bed, got up, told them, time 1am, now I can't sleep, up, took two asprin, back to bed and went to sleep.

up at 6am to bathroom and back to bed, slept on and off til Rhoda left in car at 9am, up, dressed and washed and made my own breakfast, sat around and read until 11, dozed in my chair til 11:45, then got out books and did writing til 1pm, then lunch, and laid down and slept til 3, up talked to Rhoda on phone, made out a groc list and phoned it to Rhoda, cleaned up shelves and cupboards and writing desk in kitchen, mopped floor, read paper, Rhoda home at 6;20, help get stuff in and put it away, read , supper, don't feel too good stomach bothering me, Rhoda gone with Gerry to do some shopping for him, watched tv til 10pm, talked read paper, ate, bed.

April 27, 1968 Saturday Temp at noon +46F cloudy milder

up at 8am, after fooling around awhile, got dressed, washed, breakfast, talked, down, got cots and air mattresses, 2 of each ready and fishing rods, also air pump, put them in the car for Rhoda who's lending them to some friend of hers, KR & she's gone to work, read, then out and cleaned up front yard, raked grass, finished at 1pm, in and made I and boys lunch, laid down, slept til 2;30pm, watched baseball game til 3:30, went and fixed sweet pea fence and watered front lawn to day for 1st time this year, dug 2 flower beds at back and cleaned up yard a bit, put tools away and went in, read paper til Rhoda got home, supper, Rhoda said she wanted to go see Linda and before I could say anything she said I never want to, so I just let it go at that, read til 7:30, watched Babe Ruth movie til 9:30, Rhoda ironed, talked ate, tea, put clocks ahead to daylight savings time, then bed.

up at 6:30 to bathroom, back to bed, petted but its getting to be very disappointing and Rhoda's changing after awhile. dressed, washed, breakfast, talked, read, outside, racked back lawn and tidied up generally Gerry helped for awhile, he put hose on back lawn and watered it, went in, lunch, went out and turned water off and put hose away, in, slept in chair til 2:30pm, talked to Rhoda, decided to go for a drive, left at 3:30 via Portage, Perimeter, to Hwy 59, to Birds Hill Park, rode around, stopped & looked at map of park, took 3 pictures, left, back the same way except via Sturgeon Rd, home, 70.6 miles today. had supper, dozed on chesterfield til 8:50pm, did writing til 10 or so, had tea and cake, then bed.

up at 7:40am dressed, washed, breakfast, talked, read {Note: Linda had a boy in St Boniface Hosp at approx 8:30pm yesterday, weighed 7lbs, healthy, Congrats, but just another grandchild and more expense} out at 8:50, in car, took Rhoda to work, home, in, read til 9:30, then did writing til 11am, read, lunch, laid down and slept til 2pm, out in car to Economart, got groc's, home, put stuff away, out, raked and fooled around in yard, sort of levelling ground, in, read paper, Plants from McConnells came today, out in car at 4:20 to CNIB, in, talked with Rhoda, left to IGA and bakery, then home, put bread and stuff away, talked, Rhoda gone in car to see Linda, read, Jack and Joan here, talked, Rhoda back, then Jack and I went in his car & got beer and soft drinks and chips, home, talked, ate and drank til 11, they are gone, same from Rhoda, then bed and slept.

up at 10am, dressed washed, breakfast, talked, out at 11am planted Glads and other things, rose bush, had lunch outside & talked, got boys busy digging and planted cotton easter hedge out front lawn and north east corner, had to cut lawn out, sure got my back, then laid turf I cut out in low spots in backyard, Gerry stood and watered everything with the hose, sweet peas are up, put tools away, inside, read, supper, dozed, for awhile, read til 9, watched TV, something about Darwin and the birth of animals and humans, etc and how everything works and changes, talked, score of hockey game S. Cup, finals, first game Montreal 3 St. Louis 2, in overtime, read, to bed, same as always, so went to sleep.

March 17, 1968 Sunday Temp at noon mild +42F

up at 8am, dressed washed, breakfast, read and talked, did a few things downstairs, up and out, washed front Windows with squeegee and sponge, not a very good job, had to go over with alcohol, shovelled snow a bit, in, took down the rod for the drapes and shortened it, and put if up. Looks and works okay now. Lunch, laiddown for awhile, up and did a few things all afternoon til about 5:30pm read and talk, had supper, Phil & Linda was to come but never showed up, talked & read, Rhoda and I played 3 games of crib, I won 2, had tea and bread, read and talked, bed.

up at 6:45am, dressed, shaved, washed, breakfast, read, talked listened to radio, out at 7:50, started car, in and had tea, talked, KR, left in car to P.O. to work, orders til 10:30, tea, orders til 12, out in car and home, in, talked, lunch, read, left, back to work, orders til 3:30, tea, orders til 4:30, out in car to P.O., to home, All the stuff is her now, & he was just finishing putting it together, he's gone out, brought car in driveway, looked at stuff, pretty nice, read paper, supper, talked then laid down and dozed til about 7pm, Randolph, Mom & Jessie S here, up, talked shaved, washed, changed, sat and talked with them awhile, left at 7:55 to corner bus, downtown to beer parlour, 2 beers, a bowling alley, bowled good, out to corner bus, hom by 11;45, Rhoda still up talked, had tea & bread, then fixed record player on Electrohome stereo, talked then petted & had a little fun - but I never felt too much, not like the old days, then slept.

March 19, 1968 Tuesday Temp at noon, +35F very windy, cool

up at 6am, to bathroom, to bed, dozed til 7:05am, up, dressed, washed, wind very strong out and gusting up to 50mph, breakfast, talked, read, radio, started car, left at 8am to P.O. to work, orders til 10:30, tea, orders til 12, home, snowing now as well as strong winds, lunch, read, left at 12:40, in car to service station, gas, to work, orders til 3:30, tea, orders til 4:30, out in car to P.O. to C.N.I.B. waited til 5:05, Rhoda came, says everything went Okay today, except it was late in starting and Linda and Bett never saw it all on the way, to store on corner, then home, in, read paper, had supper, talked, laid down for awhile, Rhoda gone to Rebekah service at the Marlborough Hotel via the car, washed dishes, then did some writing, and some copying until about 9:45 then played rummy with the boys until 10:30, lost to them both, played some records for awhile, read, and dozed in chair til 12:15am, when Rhoda got home, talked, fooled a bit but I know she was only trying to please me so I couldn't get interested knowing that, so after a while went to sleep.

up at 6:50am, dressed, shaved, washed, seems I have picked up a cold sore at the corner of my mouth and right eye, breakfast, read, radio, out at 7:45, started car, sat til 8, KR, first time in 4 days, out in car to PO, to work, talked, orders small today, til 10:30, tea, took stock 4 times corrected them, entered orders on work sheet, then regular orders til 12, out in car home, read, lunch, left back to work at 1:05, a few orders til 3:30, tea, same til 4:30, out in car to PO, to CNIB, got Rhoda and home, read paper, supper, laid down and slept til 7:40, Rhoda had laid down on the chesterfield so the heck with her, if that is what she prefers, went to basement and did writing, til 9:30, read til 10:30, tea and bread, read, same from Rhoda, she expects too much but never sees my side of it, only her own, so went to sleep.

March 23, 1968 Saturday Temp at noon +30F sunny

tried to get Rhoda interested in a round about way but never tried to hard, up at 7:15, to bathroom then tried to get Rhoda to come back to bed for some loving but I got the cold sholder instead. I went back to bed til 8:05, dressed, washed, breakfast, talked a little but Rhoda acting the same, out at 9am, too cheque to bank, then to W.Sup, got a piece of plywood, then to bakery and home, put stuff in and put bread away, worked on cupboard, til 11am, shelves a little short, will have to adjust accordingly, Rhoda forgot to take lunch to work so will take it to her at noon, read, out in car to CNIB, left Rhoda's lunch, home, laid down and slept til 2pm, worked on cupboard for awhile, put things away, read paper, out to CNIB to pick up Rhoda at 4:30, to Economart, bought grocs, seems prices are cheaper, home, put stuff in, then supper. Jack phoned, got here at 7:30, talked, they were pretty surprised at the new stuff, taked most of evening, they left at 11:30, tea, read, bed, had some fun with Rhoda then slept.

March 24, 1968 Sunday Temp at noon +38F sunny and mild

up at 8am, dressed, washed, breakfast, talked, then Rhoda and I out in car went west on #1 to Portage la Prairie, got gas, rode around town for a while then onto Hwy 240 south but had to turn back because of poor road and airforce barracks, to HWY 131 east to #1, west and home by 12:15, lunch, talked, dozed, Bett and Dave and kids here, they liked our stuff, kids ran wild for awhile, they left at 4pm, talked, supper, started to play crib with Rhoda, Linda and Phil here, so quit and talked with them, played records then they left at 11pm, after tea, etc. talked, to bed, some loving then slept.

March 25, 1968 Monday Temp at noon +38 sunny

up at 6:45am, dressed, shaved, washed, breakfast, sat and talked awhile, out after much fooling around with clothes line, KR, left in car to PO, to work, took mail in, cleaned up yard a bit, took fixture from one of the flood lites and to it to Killeens to get glass replaced, back and orders to 10:30, tea, out to Killeens and got casing and new glass, back to warehouse and with Mac's help got light back on, orders til 12, out in car, home, had lunch talked, left to work, orders til 3:30, tea, orders til 4:30, helped with trailer til 5, out in car to PO then to Dot's on Marjorie, got eggs, then home at 5:30, in read paper, supper, laid down and slept til 6:45, up washed and changed, Rhoda gone to some display at Vicount Gort, went to basement and did some writing til 7:30pm, talked to Gerry for awhile, then went to corner bus to downtown beer parlour, 3 beers, then to bowling alley, bowled fair, had a shot of whiskey which Bruce had won in a draw, left their at 11:05 to corner, bus home at 11:45, had tea and bread, then to bed.

up about 7:10am, dressed, washed, breakfast, talked, fooled around til 9, out in car, backed out of drive and it stalled, had to start it by holding choke open, too Rhoda to work, DR, left to bakery got bread, forgot bags, home, bagged bread and put it away, down, cut glass for Rhoda's picture, glas broke so had to cut another, corner broke off that, have to get more glass, did writing and copying, til lunch, laid down, slept til 2:30pm, read, played chinese crib til 4:15, out in car, raining and snow, to CNIB, talked left at 5pm, nearly backed into a woman dring on my blind side, why she was trying to get behind me, Ill never know, to Economart bought a bunch of groc's, home put stuff away, talked, read paper, supper, dozed in chair til 8:30, Rhoda was laying down & is up, talked, played old 78's til 10:30, most of them are all right if you want a change of music, hot chock, then to bed,

up at 6:45 to bathroom, back to bed and slept till 9am, dressed, washed, breakfast, talked, went to basement and cut wooden box down to store records inside, also fixed up a few thing, started to work on Gerry's bike to put a new pedal on it, had quite a time fighting with it, lunch, read, talked, laid down, slept til 3:45, up shaved, washed, down did some more on Gerry's bike, not good, the pedal from Chris's bike won't fit, will have to get a new one, did writing, til 5:40, put books away, talked, supper, dozed awhile, phoned Jack, but they will be out so won't go there, watched tv Johnny Belinda show til 9:30, talked, listened to radio, ate and read, bed, did a little loveing, then slept.
