up 6am breakfast, up shaved & washed, fooled around, out to streetcar to Arctic Ice on Ross Ave, Bob came at 9am, got the car to Service station, gas, to Rhoda's, left at 9:30am to Gull Lake at 11:20am, started back to Lockport then to Kildonan Park and back at Rhoda’s at 4:45pm, supper, took car back then Bob said I coulda had it til 9pm, home, read paper, washed changed, out to Rhoda’s , talked to her, D&M home, went for a walk, back, Im sorry for everything Rhoda, it is all my fault but you shouldn’t worry, it’s too late now, left at 11:20pm, home, bed, spent 25¢

up 10:20am, down, ate, dog made a mess of garden, cleaned it up, laid on chesterfield, dozed, washed dishes, reading on verandah til 2:30, borrowed a dime, diary, read, worked in garden, Rhoda never came, I’m mad. Supper, watered garden, shaved, washed, dressed, out to Rhoda’s, Kay was there, walked with them to Chalmers, home, back to Kelvin, talked with boys, til 10:10p, out to E. Kildonan, met Rhoda at Sydney, told her everything, settled it all, sort of , she told me again how she’s worrying, well if its true, we’ll get married & the sooner the better and will start to slap money in the bank as fast as we can make it, home, 12:10am, bed.

up 7am, breakfast, washed up, out to streetcar, to Erzinger’s, swept up then orders til 11:15am, drove McCellands car around on pick-ups and delivery, it a honey to drive. Back in at 12:40pm, orders til 2:35pm, swept up then loaded trucks, out to streetcar and home, read paper, laid down til 5:15pm, supper, wrote in diary til 5:50pm, read, tied of dahlias in garden, in and shaved and washed, dressed, out to barber’s for haircut, to store, home, not feeling so good, out to Rhoda’s, talked, to Roxy Theatre and saw Maid of Salem and Rosebowl, out at 11:30pm to Rhoda’s, talked, ate, a few kisses, home, nobody home, up to bed 1:30am. Rail tracks caved in at Munroe so Rhoda had to transfer to other streetcar, home, supper, read, shaved & washed, watered garden, raked & seeded lawn, Rhoda here at 9:10pm, talked, inside, made tea & toast, she said she should hang herself and be finished with it all It made me sore & at her place I told her just what I thought, and it was plenty – just because of her MOTHER – she wanted to do that rather than face it. Home, home, read paper, supper, dozed til 7:30, put chris to bed, got ready, saw that Linda was in bed, in car downtown & parked, to bowling alley, bowled good, out to chocolate shop, coffee with Phyll, then took her home, then home, in fooled at fire, its out, read til 12, left to downtown picked up Rhoda, home, in read, talked, bed.

March 21, 1953 Saturday Weather: cloudy, rain, temp at noon +38F

up at 9:30 dressed Spring Begins, breakfast, talked, light fire got ready by 12:30, out in car, won’t go, got a push, after making Jack stay in because of misbehaviour, left, picked up friend of Betts, to Hbay store via Salter St. Parked car there til 2, to Safeway on Salter, did grocery shopping, then home by 3, read, fixed fire, lunch, laid down, Rhoda came & woke me up by fooling around, so we petted a bit & then she says later - Bett home, out, sifted & emptied ashes, Chris in, fooled around, cleaning front sidewalk til 6, read paper, ate, got kinda peeved at Rhoda because of the remarks she made, phoned Rita, can’t bowl, radio, wiped dishes, cleaned kettle, Rhoda peeved & so am I, I wish I had gone bowling now - diary - read - bed..

March 22, 1953 Sunday Weather: snow, rain, temp at noon +32F

up at 9:30 dressed, breakfast, read, downstairs, lit fire, and swept basement floor, did the odd thing, down there til 12:30, dozed & read til 1pm, lunch - read & sat awhile, then out to car and it started so asked Rhoda if she wanted to go for a ride, even though she’s mad at me, ready, left at 2pm, out to city park via Wellington Cres, rode around park, then over bridge to Portage, to Arlington - north to Burrows to Main to bridge and out Henderson Hwy and back home by 3pm. Talked, did this & that, read, supper, talked, ate, read, then bed at 12.

up at 7:05am, dressed, tea, talked, Chris up, ready, KR, out in car, picked up Eve, down to work - parked car, talked, straightened up stock, put pipe stock away, then counted conf. Stock til 10, upstairs- tea, talked, the same til 12:45, out in car to home, lunch KR, to Hydro, paid last month’s bill, so back to work, counted conf stock til 3pm, between interruptions. Tea, talked, the same til 5:15, out in car, took Eve home, then home, read paper, supped, dozed, lit fire, finished writing & bowling scores, 9:25, read the rest of the night til 11:50, out in car, snowing & blowing bad, picked up Rhoda & Jessie, home, then home ourselves, talked & argued a bit about things, then to bed, slept.

up 9, dressed, upstairs, water tank bust, Rhoda says. turned heater off & water, phoned a plumber, then breakfast. Art & Eleanor here, left kids, theyre gone, ate, drove car around the front and washed it, took me til 11am, tea & bread, Art & Eleanor are back, told us they were taking Double Mortgage to buy Lil’s share of Property on Chalmers, talked about different this for quite awhile, they’re gone, plumber here to fix tan, left and downdown, to bowl, did a poor job, out and took Van and Ken home, down to Whitey’s S. Stn. Got gas & oil & car checked, then home, in ate, talked, dozed for awhile, in car, Linda Chris & BA, did shopping then went for a ride, then took Rhoda to work, home, read paper, dozed, supper, lit fire, got kids in, read til 7:45, put Chris to bed, read til 9, writing and reading and dozing til 11:50, out in car, picked up Rhoda & Jessie, home, ate, bed.

up about 9, dressed, talked, breakfast, read, sifted ashes, too windy, so quit, talked, read, lunch, dozed, took Rhoda over to Lil’s then back, sawed some wood, lit fire, read, over to Lil’s got Rhoda, home, supper, read, fooled around most of evening, reading and such, Rhoda’s never in the mood for loving anymore, its sortve hopeless & one sided trying, Ill just have to give it up then, bed.

up at 7, dressed, tea, washed, ready, KR, out in car, got Jessie & Eve, to work, in talked, so to work in cigarette room most of the morning, tea at 10, out in car at 11:45, home, in talked, lunch, read, so back to work, parked car, same as morning, mostly orders & some stock, tea at 3, ready at 5:15, out in car, out to Lil’s on Melrose, got chris, home, supper, shaved, washed, changed in a hurry, out at 6:50, Rhoda & I in car to Melborne, got Randolph at CNR station, fount the Aunts from the east, out to Lil’s, talked there til 8:30, out in car, downtown parked car, to bowling alley, bowled good but too much fooling around, out at 10:50, to Lil’s by 11pm, talked for awhile, then home, talked & read, til 12:15, fixed bed, then to bed.
