January 1, 1940 Monday Weather:fair & cold, temp at noon, +2F

up 10:30am dressed, read paper, out to shed & back, talked, breakfast, slept & read til 1;30pm, Norma Young here, read and played with her, had a nap til 4:40pm, listened to radio, played with B.A. for a couple of hours, read & dozed til 9:45pm, wrote in diary, had cocoa and ice cream and cake, bed.

January 2, 1940 Tuesday Weather: fair & cold, temp at noon, zero

Miss Johnson here from next door saying Erzinger's will be here in 15 min - Chuck here, told him I could not go right away account I had to do some things first here, he's gone, got fires going, Rhoda up, breakfast, talked, got wood in, to store to phone Erzinger's, Herb said not to come in, got Archie Sinclair's son there, home, got water for washing, lunch, started washing, laid down about 3:30pm, dozing, Mr Johnson here from next door said Erzinger's phoned, went next door to phone Erzinger's, Mr McCelland said to come in tomorrow, back, told Rhoda, washing finished, dumped water, Rhoda not feeling well, supper, read paper, Rhoda laid down and slept til 8pm, washed dishes, woke Rhoda, dried dishes, talked, went out and chopped wood, brought it in for morning, brought coal in, emptied ashes from both stoves, got water, listened to radio til 10:30pm, wrote in diary, bed, 11:30pm.

up 7am, dressed, breakfast, brought clothes horse in for Rhoda, left to corner streetcar to Erzinger's, talked, stock, got truck, mileage 28,856, Harold Baird's truck, he hurt himself bad, may be away for a couple of weeks, trips & orders til 6pm, to service station at Plighton (?) Ave. left truck there for night, home, supper, read paper, talked, laid down til 8:30pm, talked, brought in coal & chopped & brought in small wood, emptied water, read til 10:30pm, fixed fire for the night, bed.

January 4, 1940 Thursday Weather: cloudy, snow, temp at noon zero

up 6:50am dressed, breakfast, talked, KR, left to garage, got truck, to Erzinger's, stock, cashed in orders, Transcona trip, stopped at home at 11;20am, lunch, back to Erzingers, orders and stock til 5:20pm, 5 deliveries then to garage and home, supper, Hazel & Harold Morton dropped in as we were going out, talked, they left, in truck to Lennox's, left B.A. there, to Doctor's & hospital for Rhoda, back to Lennox's, talked, brought Rhoda home, took truck back to garage, walked home, chopped & brought in wood & coal, went for water, couldn't turn tap on, frozen, so didn't get any, home, read, had cocoa, wrote in diary, fixed fires, for night bed.

February 28, 1938 Monday Weather: clear and mild, temp at noon +30F

up 9:30am, dressed, breakfast, Lily went out and phoned, shes back, no change, dressed and went to Lennox's on Winterton Ave and told Mrs Lennox, left there 11am, home, laid on bed til 12, lunch, read, Lily back, doc says okay for me to see Rhoda, dressed, ready, out to St Joseph's hospital on Salter, Rhoda gave birth to a baby girl between 2 and 3 pm, I have not found out right time yet. I wish it were a boy, but maybe next time, stayed with Rhoda til 4pm, went down to nursery and saw baby, cutest little thing, but it hollered when I looked at it and even more when I touched it, home, told Art and family, sent Norma with a note to Lennox's but they were out, read paper, supper, out to Lennox's, talked to Mr Lennox, met Mrs Lennox on way home, told her, met Harold Baird and rode around with him, he took me out to hospital, stayed with Rhoda til 8pm, left to Rosies, Lily there, read & slept til 11pm, Rose & Harold back, talked, had tea & cake, left 12:10am, brought crib home with me, bed.

Spent $6.30

up 7:15am, tea, washed, out to streetcar to Erzinger’s, swept, orders til 2pm, swept up, talked to Mrs. Powell about painting, out to streetcar, home, read paper, bath, there is 3 hours & 35 mins & I’ll be married, shaved, washed, dressed, Harold here, out to Rhoda’s, talked to Minister, & at 7:20pm Rhoda and I were married, signed Register, out to Photographer’s on Selkirk , pictures taken, went for a ride, down Main to Portage, to Subway and back, to Redwood, Hespeler, and to Rhoda’s, answered toast, there til 12:30pm, B. Evan’s took Rhoda’s aunt home, bed. I’m married now & now I’ll have to change for Rhoda’s and baby’s sake if not my own.
