October 18, 1939 Wednesday Weather: Fair and Mild temp at noon 46+ F

up 6:50 am dressed, breakfast, shaved and washed, ready KR (kissed Rhoda) left to corner, streetcar to Erzinger’s, orders, office staff pulled a good one on me this am, pretending they were shoe store where we get slw boys – the nuts. 11:30 am, lunch read, talked, orders and stock til 5:30pm, out to Donald St. Streetcar, home, 6:20 pm. Read paper, supper, laid down dozed, dressed to Lennox’s, Mrs Hewitson there, talked, Mrs H. Gone home, had tea & cake, left there at 11:50pm home talked, got fire going, diary, read, bed 12;45am

October 19, 1939 Thursday Weather: fair & mild temp at noon +47F

up 6:55 am dressed, breakfast talked, fooled around, stock and orders til 11:30pm. Roy trying to be smart by putting shoes in shoebox for me to find. Failed miserably. Lunch read, talked, orders til 5:10pm swept up out in truck. Chuck brought me home, read paper and magazine, supper, Mrs Johnson here from next door, talked. Left to Chalmers, Lily out, talked to Art who had some teeth pulled. Left, to Andrews, home, My birth Certificate was at home after all. Read til 10pm diary, read, bed.

October 20, 1939 Friday Weather: fair - rain, temp at noon +51 F

up 7 am dressed, breakfast, talked, shaved & washed, ready KR, left to corner, streetcar to Erzinger’s. Orders & stock til 11:40am, lunch read, orders & stock til 6pm. Tossed for bucks, won $3, lost $1.40 out to CafĂ©, supper, to Erzingers, Charlie came to Lysecum Theater saw B. Karloff in The Man They Couldn’t Hang & another picture, out at 9:50pm to Beer Parlour – 2 beers – rotten stuff. Charlie brought me home in truck, in read, diary, read, Rhoda not home yet, read, bed.

October 22, 1939 Sunday Weather: cloudy & cool snowflurries, temp at noon +42F

up 8:45am dressed, got fire going, Rhoda up, breakfast, talked, took groceries into Lennox’s, talked, brought back laundry & bread, talked, got water, dug up garden. Laurence Lennox here, talked, he left. Went to store, worked more in garden, lunch, took pipes down, & cleaned them & stove. Put them back up, laid down, slept til 4. Brought wood in, chopped kindling, dug garden, read, listened to radio, supper. Lily & Norma here, talked, got water, played cards, L&N left 12am, shaved & washed, diary, fixed fire, locked up, bed.

October 26, 1939 Thursday Weather: cloudy, cool, temp at noon +36F

up 6:50 am dressed, breakfast, talked, washed, ready, KR, left for streetcar and to Erzinger’s in at 7;40am. Put away stock til 11:30, downstairs, lunch, orders & stock til 5:30pm. Swept up, out to Donald St. Streetcar, talked to Joan White. Home, Rhoda not home, lit fire, Rhoda home, laid on bed and dozed – stomache and teeth sure giving me hell. Supper, read paper, rolled cigarettes, laid down til 9pm, emptied water pail, brought in coal, read, sewed button on pants, wrote in diary, read, talked, bed 10:15pm

October 28, 1939 Saturday Weather: cloudy, cold, snow, temp at noon +26F

up 7am dressed, breakfast, talked KR left to corner, streetcar to Erzinger’s. orders til 2:45pm, swept up out to Donald St. Streetcar. Talked to Mr & Mrs Pratt who lived next door to us on Chalmers Ave. Years ago. To Petersens- there not in. To hardware for tape, to Lily’s, talked, Rhoda came, went home, talked, had a lay down, had a bath and changed to winter underwear, cup of tea, read paper, teeth aching and gums swelling to beat hell 9:30pm, read, Rhoda went for water & coal, diary, bed 10:20pm

October 30, 1939 Monday Weather: cloudy & cool, temp at noon +29F

up 6:50 am dressed, breakfast, out to shed, feel too bad, face still swollen. Took medicine, laid down til 12, lunch, out to shed, shaved & washed was some job& sure felt funny, bathed face & laid down with hot water bottle on face – slept til 4pm. Norman Lennox here & gone, talked, read paper, listened to radio, supper, fooled around, diary, bed 9:20pm
October 31, 1939 Tuesday Halloween weather: cloudy, cool, snowflurries, temp at noon +39F
up 6:50 am dressed, breakfast, talked, washed, ready, KR, left to streetcar to Erzinger’s, orders til 11:30 am, out to O.A.P. paid $5 rent, back to work, orders til 6:10pm, stocktaking til 10:30 pm, home in truck with Chuck at 10:50pm. Rhoda not home yet, got fire going, read paper, diary, waited for Rhoda, 11:08pm Bed. Teeth getting better.

up 7:10am dressed, breakfast, talked, rolled cigs, out and got water, KR, left to streetcar to Erzinger’s, stock & orders til 11:40am, lunch, read, orders til 5:15pm, swept up, out to streetcar, home, read paper, laid down listened to radio & read til 9pm, up, talked, emptied water from pail & washer, brought clothes in off line, got water, diary, read, had cup of cocoa, talked, fooled around, bed.

up 6:50 am breakfast, shaved & washed, KR, left for work, stock & orders til 11;30am, lunch, stock & orders til 6pm, out to streetcar, to Lennox’s on Winterton ave. Supper, talked, Rhoda & I out to Roxy Theater, saw Hardy’s Ride High and Swing Sister Swing, out 11pm, to Lennox’s, Randolph & Hazel there, talked, left for home 11:30pm, got fire going, read, bed 12:30am
