Monday, December 1, 1969 Weather: sunny and mild temp at noon +40F
60 Years Young

up at 6:45am, dressed and shaved, washed, breakfast, talked, listened to radio, started car and back in for tea, KR, left to P.O. to work, in, orders til 10:30, tea, orders til 12, out in car to home, lunch, read, talked with Rhoda, KR, left to work , orders til 3:30 pm, tea, orders til 4:30, out in car to P.O. then home, talked, read paper, supper, had raisen pie with candles on it and blew them all out. Recieved cards from Chris, Jack, socks and nail clippers from Bett, after shave lotion from Linda, Bowling Shoes from Rhoda, but they are too tight. Linda and George here, played with George, finally got ready and left at 8:05pm to corner bus, downtown to bowling alley, bowled good 700, avg 205, home at 11:45 - read, ate, talked with Rhoda, bed, slept.


Tuesday, December 1, 1970 Weather: cloudy, snow temp at noon +23F
My 61 Birthday

up 6:50am dressed, shaved, washed, breakfast, birthday greeting from Rhoda, read, talked, listened to radio til 7:45am out to clean off car, and started it, in, finished tea, KR, left to P.O. to work, in, orders til 10:30, tea, orders til 12:30, out in car, home, blowing snow, bad now, lunch. to B of M, to work, in, orders til 3:30, tea, then orders til 4:40pm, got mail and out to car then to Air Express office, back to Garfield, traffic bad, then to CNIB at 5:15pm, got Rhoda, then home. Linda and boys here, talked, supper, had cake and blew out candles except one. Card from Jack, gold cufflinks from Linda,and handkerchief, from Rhoda a movie camera - wonderful , a card from Chris, talked to Linda and Rhoda about different things til 10pm, Linda gone, read, had hot choc, talked, and so to bed.

Monday, December 1, 1975 Weather: Snow and cold, temp at noon +16F
up 3:30 am to brm, cant roll a cigt, too dry, to BR, to bed, slept, woke up at 8, Rhoda kissed me and wished me a Happy Birthday, then got up at 8:20 and dressed, shaved, washed, breakfast, read, sat in chair. Rhoda brought me a gift - a stapler with staples, very nice, talked, tried stapler, it works good. Lil phoned to wish me Happy Birthday, and talked awhile, then Jessie phoned. Rhoda and I decided to get Phil and Linda a cookoo clock for Christmas and ordered one from Eatons mailorder. Phoned Rothmans ; talked to Gerry to see if he was coming for lunch, he is, talked, Rhoda and I then out and started car and backed it up into sun. in, waited for Rhoda then left at 11:35 via Portage to S. Sears, KR, left, via Ness, home -- electric cord won't work, so I got something else to fix. Had lunch, Gerry here, gave me tobbacco and screwdrivers set for my birthday, talked about Rothmans etc, and other things. He left at 12:40, laid down, slept til 2pm, up had a banana, then did writing, cactus I bought from the USA seems to have taken root, Rhoda and I got prickles from it. Can't get record player to work in here, put the old one back, washed dishes, made up a temporary extention line, tested it, plugged it in back wall plug, plugged car in, it works, talked on phone, had tea and cookie, read, til 4:30, out in car via Portage to S. Sears, parked, bought masking tape, cost $1.42, talked with Rhoda, out in car, drove around to door, Rhoda came at 5:10, home, talked and set table, got supper ready, ate, read paper, TV all evening til 10:30, had tea and toast, then bed. KR.

Wednesday December 1st 1971 Weather: cldy mild temp at noon +24F

up as usual to bathroom,on my birthday, so Im now 62 years young to bed slept to 7am. dressed , shaved,washed,breakfast,read,talked,radio talked,out, started car,in,tea, KR left at 8:05 to p.o. to work, in. change over, I pick orders, Bryan does trailers + repacks,so orders till 10:30 tea,orders till 12, out in car,home in lunch,dozed, out in car to BofM. to work orders till 3:30, tea, same till 5. out in car home,talked rec'd card from Jessie. Gerry and I had supper-beans etc. slept and read. Bett Dave and the kids here gave me socks for birthday and sang happy birthday to me. played a couple of games with them, they left at about 9:30pm read, out at 9:55 to zellers, got Rhoda, home, in, talked, tea & bread, bed.

Thursday December 2nd 1971 Weather: cldy mild temp at noon +24F

My birthday continued

up as usual to bathroom, to bed slep, up 6:50 and dressed, shaved, washed, breakfast, talked read, radio, out, started car, in, tea, KR, left in car to P.O. to work, in, orders til 10:30, tea, same til 12, out in car, home, in, lunch, read, talked, KR, left to work, in, orders til 3:30, tea, same til 4:30, lined skids, out in car, home, in, read paper, supper, slept in chair, Lil and Norma here, talked, Norma sure looks bad &: couldn't keep still a minute. Phil, Linda and boys here, gave me one handkerchief and scarf, talked and stuff, Rhoda gave me a Kimona, had tea & cake, then Phil, etc gone in car, took Norma to Gen Hosp, then took Lil home via Redwood to McCallum, etc, home ourselves, via St. Boniface, talked, read, bed.

Friday, December 1, 1972 Weather: clear and cold temp at noon -10F

up at 3am to bathroom, to bed, slept, up 7am, dressed, shaved, washed and breakfast, talked, Birthday kiss from Rhoda, KR, out in car 8am to P.O. to work, in, we switched around, now I am doing trailer and the repacks til 10:30, tea, same til 12, out in car, home, in, read, lunch, talked, KR, left to work, trailers and orders til 3, trailer finished, tea, orders finished, checked orders, locked up, lined skids, left, put mail in box, in car, home, in, talked, supper, Rec'd from Rhoda and Gerry, bowling shoes, from Chris 2 beer glasses, and cards from Lil and Jessie. opened gifts, talked, Rhoda gone to work in Gerry's new Dodge Dart. sat in chiar, slept til 6, up, changed, talked with Chris on phone, read paper, out in car to bowling alley, tried out new shoes, not bad, rolled 600, avg 194. out in car to S. Sears, waited til 9:35, got Rhoda, home, in, talked about Xmas, etc, had hot choc and Birthday Cake, slept.

Saturday December 1, 1962 Weather: cloudy mild temp at noon +34F
My Birthday - 53 years young
up 7:30am dressed, washed, breakfast, talked, fooled around, out, started car, let it run, in, Rhoda ready, out, started to take her to work then decided it wasn't so slippery, so she's gone herself, in, watched Grey Cup Parade on TV and other things til 10:30, Jack and Joan are here, watched Grey Cup Game on TV til 3pm- when they had to postpone game on account of fog was 9 mins and 29 secs left to play, will be played on Sunday - score Wpg 28 and Hamilton 27, talked, Rhoda home, dozed in chair awhile, supper, cake and gifts, Slippers from Jack and Joan, metal square for measuring from Linda, gloves from Rhoda, talked, played with boys downstairs, curling game, etc, up, TV, hockey game, then we played cards til 10:30pm, took our car out to let Jack out, put car back in, they are gone, bed.

Sunday, December 1, 1963 Weather: cold, temp at noon +5F

My 53rd Birthday

up 9am, dressed, washed, breakfast, talked, down, worked on cabinet til 1pm, up, lunch, laid down and slept til 4pm, up, putting wire through floor for TV in basement, got a spike stuck in hole and a heck of a time getting it out, finally did after fooling around with it a bit, connected up wiring for TV, work, so watched TV, changed and washed, rec'd card from Rhoda, sweater from Linda and Chris and Gerry, although I thought Rhoda would do better than Just a sentimental card, but I won't say anything about it. Supper, TV, had birthday cake, TV til 9pm, did writing, out in car, took Linda to Nurse's Residence, home, in, read, til 11pm, ate more cake and had tea, bed, slept.

Monday, December 1, 1930 weather: cold

21 years old today

wish I was still sixteen, went up town in morning, never saw Lil, met Flo Steele and Marge Faschaison, talked for awhile, left to go to Eatons, Free Press, back to Eatons, met B. Nash, to Hudson Bay Store, Kresges, Eatons restroom, met Lil my sister and daughter Norma on the streetcar, talked, they are going to Rose's , home at 1:23, lunch, out to Rose's place, got razor blades, home, shaved and washed, read, slept, supper, stayed in all evening, Nelson here for awhile, lent him 2 books, read, bed at 11:30pm

Dame, left, Jack to work, tin, talked, a few orders til 10, tea, orders til 12, sat around and ate lunch, dozed and other things til 1:30, orders til 3, tea, orders til 5, out in car, took Bryan to Portage, to Main St, got Jack, home, in, read paper, supper, Rhoda gone to work by bus, talked, laid down til 8:30, up, did not do much as back still bothering me, watched TV til 10:30, out in car, downtown, got Rhoda, home, in, talked, then to bed.

My Birthday today, 50 years young

up 7am, dressed, shaved, washed, breakfast, Jack and Rhoda gave me a card. Warmer this morning, left to work, in, talked, orders and rail car til 10, tea, orderstil 12, out in car, home, lunch dozed, left to work, in car, orders mostly til 3, tea, orders til 5, out in car, home after getting some groceries, in talked, MUM here, read paper, supper, a few gifts from Linda - gillette razors and blades, Gerry blades, Chris gave me a Life Magazine, Mum - socks. ate, talked, out, took Rhoda to work, home, TV til 1130, out, Mum with me, downtown, got Rhoda, then took Mum home to Melrose Ave. then home, ate, talked, bed.

Thursday December 1, 1977 Weather: cloudy temp at noon +3C
My birthday, 68 years young

up at 6am to br, to bed slept, up at 7am, to br, let cat in, back to bed, Rhoda as usual spoiled things, she got up at 8:30, , up, dressed, washed, breakfast, read, Rhoda came & tried to make up to me, KR, read, then worked out florescent fixture frame, had to have Rhoda help, no one else here, but finally got it finshed, put tools away, read, lunch and laid down slept til 1:30, read mail, birthday card from Gerry also Xmas gift we think, Reader's Digest, Rhoda and I out, cleaned snow from car and shovelled a bit, its very wet and heavy, in, sat awhile, talked then read 1931 til about 4pm, tried to get slide proj to work, it wont, so did my writing, then supper, sat awhile then finished writing at 6:55pm, to the living room and watched tv, then copied 1931 til 7:30, the Parkin's here, Bill and Filo, talked and played cards all evening til 10:30pm, Rhoda gave me a desk organizer for pens, etc, and the Parkins gave me gloves, had tea and cake, and I blu out all the candles, talked about different things and they left at 12:15am, to bed, things the same, so slept.

Family Picnics -- not in order

Sunday, September 9, 1973 Weather: warm +70F at noonup once to bathroom, to bed, slept. up about 8:30, dressed washed, breakfast, read, talked, out, picked up the apples from the tree. also picked strawberries, did a few things about the house, talked about floor for bedroom, den, kitchen, then had lunch, dozed awhile, then cleaned, washed, changed, put food in car, chairs, etc, things ready, left at 1:20pm to Chris and Susan's, got them, back to McPhillips, Leila to Gerry's place then we left, Gerry following to Lois' place near Birds Hill. Those present were - Rhoda and I, Bett and  Dave and kids, Jack, Joan and kids, Chris, Susan, Gerry Jane, Carol and Bob & kids, Joyce and Andy and kids, Shirley C and a friend, played games, talked, kids races, ate. Jane as usual upset things, won't get friendly, she left to walk home, so Gerry had to leave. We left about 8:30pm to Chris and Susan's, tea, talked, left there 10pm. Jack told us he is flying north tomorrow for Hydro, will be gone a week, talked, read & so to bed.

Sunday September 15, 1974 Weather: some cloud, temp at noon +60FBarker Family Picnic at Birds Hill Park

up at 5am to BR to bed, slept, up at 8:30am, dressed & washed, breakfast, read awhile, talked, fixed a parcel to mail to Norman in BC, then out -- talked to Rob Nelson, neighbour and showed him the trailer then vacuumed rug, checked heater in tent trailer, switch won't work, keeps cutting out, so put it away, then did some writing. Rhoda getting ready for picnic, lunch, talked, dozed, then finally left at 1:45 to service station via Sturgeon Rd. , Inkster, #7, Perimeter to #59 to Birds Hill, found nice spot, Jack and Joan came, sat and talked and played around, finally at 3:30 others came. Those present - Chris, Susan Rhoda and I, Jack and Joan and boys, Bob and Carol DeVisser & kids, Dave and Bett and only 2 girls, Art and Eleanor and 2 boys, too bad the others won't come, there til about 5:30, had weiners, etc. Everyone going so left. North on 59 hwy, west on 44, north on 9 to Selkirk to Gerry's place but they are not home, so left via 9 south to Perimeter then to #7, Inkster then to Sturgeon Rd. Home at 8pm. put away stuff, read, watched TV, etc til 11pm, had tea and bread, talked and so to bed.

Sunday June 15, 1969 Weather: sunny and warm Temp at noon +62F

Father's Day

up at 7:30am to bathroom, dozed, fooled around, dozed, talked, up 8am, dressed, washed, breakfast, read, did a few things outside, cut cooch grass along fence then told Albert off next door about damaging fence, told him next time there would be trouble, walked around outside for awhile, in, helped Rhoda a bit, phoned Jessie, had a lite lunch, Jack phoned, loaded car, left via Portage and Disraili, picked up Jeessie on Jamieson, then north on Henderson to Perimeter, #59 north to Birds Hill Park, rode around and finally found a spot. took stuff in, walked to rode ; directed the rest of them into picnic spot. run races, played volly ball and base ball. Those present were, Rhoda and I, Jack and Joan, Randy, Bett, and Dave and girls, (8) Andy and Joyce and boys, Linda, Phil and George, Donna and Doug and boys, Jessie, Lois and Russ and kids, Rose, Harold and Lil & Norman. In all 45, not bad. There til around 6pm, left to earth pile, don't look so good so never got any, home, via 59, perimeter, sturgeon, by 7:30pm, in talked and read. listened to radio rest of evening, bed about 11pm, slept. PS. also Carol and Bob and boy and Gail and friend.
