Home, milk and pie, bed.

Hunt on streetcar, Erzingers, worked, put orders up for country and city til 1:30pm, swept up, closed up, stopped at store, couldn’t find what I wanted, got tobacco 15¢, streetcar home, talked, sold both books of tickets, slept, wrote in diary, to Petersons, got my watch, cost $1.00, paid 50¢, out to Rhoda’s, Hell of a row over a overcoat. Went to Rudolph’s tailor, there til 8pm, to Rhoda’s, every damn time, her mother put a kink in things, I’m getting plenty fed up, believe me, to Hazel & Harolds, ate there, left 12:20 am, walked Rhoda home. Left ther 1:40 am home, bed. Spent 90¢ today.

up in a hurry, word from hospital that Mum was dying, got a taxi, told him to rush but he stopped for gas so we then arrived to late. Mum had died at 7:15 am, can’t remember anymore too upset by all that happened & we lost the best one of all.

up 7:30am dressed, washed, breakfast, talked, fooled around, started car, let it run, Rhoda ready, started to take her to work, then decided it wasn’t so slippery so she drove herself, in, watched Grey Cup parade on TV til 10:30 am, Jack & Joan & Barbie are here, watched Grey Cup game on TV til 3pm when they had to postpone game on account of fog, there was 9 mins 29 secs left to play, will be played on Sunday, Score Wpg 28 Hamilton 27 talked, Rhoda home, dozed in chair, supper, cake and gifts, Slippers from Jack & Joan, square for measuring from Linda, gloves from Rhoda, talked, played with boys downstairs curling, tv hockey game, then we played cards til 10;30pm, took our car out of driveway to let Jack out, put car back in, they are gone, Bed.

So ends 1962, a year that started with a $200.00 a year raise, it stayed that way with not much bright spots, we took a few trips, had a swell time in all of them, but we still haven’t got to Banff yet, Xmas was good and now we have to catch up on our debt.

up 8am, dressed, washed, breakfast, worked downstairs all morning, lunch, out with Rhoda in car and dog, to Ness Ave. Road around awhile because car was hard to start, stopped, let dog run awhile, then home, in shaved, washed supper, TV til 7, Rhoda and I to Bett’s took her to laundermat on Pembina Hiway to wash clothes, took 45 mins, took her home then we got home by 9pm, talked and other things, so Rhoda has been put back to part time work beginning next week so that means half the wages shes been getting, talked, TV til 11, windchill today was equal to 71 below, to bed.

March 7, 1963 Thursday Weather: partly cloudy, cool, t at noon 20+
up 7am, dressed, shaved, washed, breakfast, talked, radio, out 7:50, left, picked up girls, to P.O., to work talked, orders til 10:30, tea, we hear they are going to fill in pit & make a smaller shipping door& we might be able to have the plywood & 2 x 4 from pit enclosure, orders to 12, out, home, lunch, read, talked, dozed, left to work, orders til 3:30, tea, orders til 5, out, snowing to beat the devil. In car to P.O. took girls home, car acting up, to drugstore, got grocs, to top of street, car is wet, can’t start it, police came & helped me put it to the curb, walked home from there, read paper had supper, sat awhile, out to corner to car, she started, home, cleaned snow from driveway, now wind is blowing & visibility is down to zero, it lasted about an hour, & temperature dropped to zero. We are in a bad financial situation because Rhoda is not making enough money to help, looks as if we might ask for aditional loan at bank, unless something turns up. Tv til 10 out, started car & shovelled snow, from driveway, Linda home, left to drugstore, Rhoda as usual has someone to take home, Carrie on Mt. Royal, then car acting up again, but made it to home, talked, ate, bed.

up 7:30am dressed, washed, breakfast, talked, fooled around, started car, let it run, Rhoda ready, started to take her to work, then decided it wasn’t so slippery so she drove herself, in, watched Grey Cup parade on TV til 10:30 am, Jack & Joan & Barbie are here, watched Grey Cup game on TV til 3pm when they had to postpone game on account of fog, there was 9 mins 29 secs left to play, will be played on Sunday, Score Wpg 28 Hamilton 27 talked, Rhoda home, dozed in chair, supper, cake and gifts, Slippers from Jack & Joan, square for measuring from Linda, gloves from Rhoda, talked, played with boys downstairs curling, tv hockey game, then we played cards til 10;30pm, took our car out of driveway to let Jack out, put car back in, they are gone, Bed.

up 8:30 am dressed, lip sore, washed, breakfast, talked, did writing, watched finish of Grey Cup game on TV, final Score Wpg 28, Hamilton 27, dozed for awhile, lunch, Dave & Bett here & left kids here while they went to see Barbie at Childrens Hospital, Dave brought me some Rabbits ears wire too, I put it up but found it still wasn’t enough, talked, supper, dozed, Dave & Bett back and stayed til 10:30pm, plugged car in, they are gone, football til 12am, then bed.

To work, helped unloading trailer from Quebec til 3, tea, orders til 5 took D home then to drugstore at 5:20 got Rhoda, home, read paper, supper, took Rhoda to work, home slept til 7, had a bath, shaved & washed, changed, gave orders to the boys, left at 8:10pm, picked up Eileen, downtown, parked on Garry St to bowling alley, bowled good, 654, avg 208, out in car, dropped Eileen off, home talked, ate, bed. I’m very much fed up with everything, especially our love life because of the attitude Rhoda has towards it and everything else most of the time, finally got to sleep.

Christmas Day
December 25, 1962 Tuesday Weather: cold, t at noon 12-
up 8am dressed washed, everyone up, breakfast, then opened gifts, car seat from Rhoda, desk calender from Linda, handkerchiefs from boys, sealer carrying case from Joan and Jack, socks from Bett and Dave (2pr) 1pr from Mum and Norman, fooled around with things awhile, lunch, dozed til 3pm, then washed, shaved, changed, now everything set, Jack & Joan arrived at 2:30pm, Mr. Mrs Allen (?) Dropped in for a while, and Jack took them to where they were going, Dave & Bett arr at 3pm, Norman & Mum via taxi, fooled in basement til 5:30pm, had X dinner down there, sat around awhile, then played basement hockey til 9pm, played cards awhile, Jack brought his guitar but hardly used it, Bett & Dave left at 12, dozed, Jacks car won’t go, got mine going, Jacks finally went, they left, taking Mum & Norman hom enroute, they arr ok, Jack phoned to say so, bed at 2:35.

up 8:30am dressed washed, breakfast, sat around and talked, fooled arround most of the time, got ready, all of us, out in car, over to Jacks, parked car on Monroe, talked, played games, before & after dinner, Mr & Mrs Bevan dropped in, there til 12:10am, out to car but it won’t go, went in for awhile, still won’t go, everyone in car, Jack in his car gave me a push to Gateway Rd. & south & finally got it going, pin a few more dents in it and also broke off my license plate lite, home, by 1;30am, talked and so to bed.

So ends 1962, a year that started with a $200.00 a year raise, it stayed that way with not much bright spots, we took a few trips, had a swell time in all of them, but we still haven’t got to Banff yet, Xmas was good and now we have to catch up on our debt.

up 7am dressed, washed, breakfast, shaved, ready started car, tea, left, 7:50 am, usual stops to work, in, orders til 10, tea, got called in office was told, I will get a $300.00 a year raise which will make it $4500.00 a year, home at 12 told Rhoda, lunch, left to work, orders til 3, tea, orders til 5, took D home, to drugstore, got Rhoda, home, supper, out, took Rhoda to work, home, read paper, slept til 7pm, did a little more in basement, TV til 10, out to service station, gas, to drugstore got Rhoda & took Ida home, finished writing, talked, ate, bed.

up 8am, dressed, washed, shaved, breakfast, talked, took Rhoda to work, home, did dishes, took Linda to Eatons, then over to Dr McTavish in Elmwood with sample for Linda, to Arts, he’s working talked with Eleanor and left some tobacco for Art, to Lil’s talked had tea and cake, left at 12:30 to drugstore, got Rhoda, to I.G.A. got groceries, home, put groc’s in and away, read, lunch, dozed, Rhoda gone back to work, I worked in basement most of afternoon, read paper, Rhoda home, supper, Linda home, talked did some more in basement, TV rest of night, hockey and other things, Patsy is in heat so we will have to take her out for walks, read, ate, bed 11:30pm
January 13, 1963 Sunday Weather: cold, t at noon 15-
up 8am, dressed, washed, breakfast, worked downstairs all morning, lunch, out with Rhoda in car and dog, to Ness Ave. Road around awhile because car was hard to start, stopped, let dog run awhile, then home, in shaved, washed supper, TV til 7, Rhoda and I to Bett’s took her to laundermat on Pembina Hiway to wash clothes, took 45 mins, took her home then we got home by 9pm, talked and other things, so Rhoda has been put back to part time work beginning next week so that means half the wages shes been getting, talked, TV til 11, windchill today was equal to 71 below, to bed.
January 19, 1963 Saturday Weather: cloudy, cold, t at noon 21-
up at 8:30, dressed washed, breakfast talked, fooled around doing different things til 10am, started car, talked, took Linda as far as Ferry Rd where she caught a bus to go to work, made a cardboard cover for front of car to stop draft, attached same with wire, also put in more anti freeze. Read, had lunch out at 12;50 took Rhoda to work, to I.G.A. got groc’s, to bakery for bread, to drugstore, gave Rhoda money, home, put stuff away, TV most of afternoon, slept from 3:45 to 4:30, TV til 6, got supper ready, ate, Linda home, there is quite a blizzard most of afternoon, TV til 9:45, started car, then shovelled some snow, left to drugstore, got Rhoda, took Ida home, talked, ate, bed 12:30am
January 24, 1963 Thursday Weather cold, t at noon 15-
up 7am, dressed shaved washed, breakfast, waiting for D.O. Hare, but he’s having car trouble, talked about Rhoda trying Avon selling, Darrell here at 8:20, to work, orders til 10, tea, orders til 12, lunch, phoned & car not ready, dozed, & talked, then orders til 3, tea, went with Danny part way then to MacDonalds, waited til 5:35, got car, home by 6pm, read paper, supper, TV & slept til 8:15, out to stores & back, Jack & Joan here, and Joan has dyed her hair blonde, not too bad. Talked, ate, & other things, they left at 10pm, talked, bed, 11pm.

up 8:30am dressed, breakfast, talked, having turkey today, Bett & Dave, family, Jack & Joan coming over talked, finished painting table & chairs, talked &a few other things, lunch then out in car, Rhoda I and boys & dog, Patsy, out to Perimeter, boys gave Patsy a good run, back at 3, talked, read, Dave & Bett & kids here, talked, tried to work out Dave’s income tax, couldn’t quite figure it out, they have gone to see Barbie in Hospital, I phoned Art & found out how to do it, Jack & Joan here, supper, turkey and usual trimmings, Dave & Bett back, He found out how to do it too, played tennis & hockey in basement, Dave & Bett left at 9:30, Jack & Joan at 10:30, talked and so to bed.

Lennox here to look after boys, while we are out, read, left, 8:15pm, Rhoda and Linda with me, picked up Eileen, took R&L to Arena to see Icecapades, they had to walk a block on account of traffic, downtown, parked car, to bowling alley, bowled good, 636, avg 210, out to car, to Arena, show won’t be over til 12, so took Eileen home, back to Arena, parked car and saw part of show, waited & watched for R & L, & finally found them, to car, home by 12:30am, talked ate, tv til 1:30am, Norman gone, bed, slept.

Norman, Linda and boys gone toboganning, sat around and talked, Dave gone back to Moose Jaw to work. Norman and kids back at 5:30pm we left at 6:30 home, Mum came too, talked and other things, showed slides, they left at 10:30pm put stuff away, bed 11:15pm, did some loving, then slept

up 7am, dressed, shaved, washed, breakfast, talked, listened to radio, out to car, won’t go, a very cold wind is blowing at 40 mph, windchill of 80-, in waited awhile, tried again, no go, was going to take Rhoda to Betts, but won’t, phoned Darren, then phoned s. station, they came in 10 mins, tried to start car, no dice, tried to pull me, but slid into snow bank, got stuck, after pushing & bumping me got straight, pulled me on to street & pushed me to s. station where we got car started, left to work by 9:10am talked, orders til 10:30 tea, orders til 12, out, took D. Home then home, in, lunch talked , left 12:50, got D. In car to P.O. took girls home, car acting up, to drugstore, got grocs, to top of street, car is wet, can’t start it, police came & helped me put it to the curb, walked home from there, read paper had supper, sat awhile, out to corner to car, she started, home, cleaned snow from driveway, now wind is blowing & visibility is down to zero, it lasted about an hour, & temperature dropped to zero. We are in a bad financial situation because Rhoda is not making enough money to help, looks as if we might ask for aditional loan at bank, unless something turns up. Tv til 10 out, started car & shovelled snow, from driveway, Linda home, left to drugstore, Rhoda as usual has someone to take home, Carrie on Mt. Royal, then car acting up again, but made it to home, talked, ate, bed.
