September 15 to 20 1949

September 15, 1949 Thursday

Temperature at noon 50°F
cloudy and warm
up at 7 AM dressed tea shaved washed, ready left, to corner street car to Erzingers, talked, orders, got trips away. out to Café for coffee, back, orders till 12, lunch read phoned Rhoda, orders and stock till 7:30 PM, phoned Rhoda, left to Donald Street streetcar, home. Talked read paper, supper, out picked tomatoes and covered the rest then went for a walk with Rhoda and Linda. Back home,in, talked, got kids in bed, read.

September 16, 1949 Friday

temperature at noon 60°F
partly cloudy
up 7 AM dressed got a cold somehow, feel tough, then shaved and washed. ready, KR. Left to corner streetcar to work, talked, got trips away, out for coffee. Boss bawled us out about mistakes, there has been an unusual amount of them. orders till 12, out to café, Lunch, back, Rhoda phoned, talked, orders and stock all afternoon, put stock away till 8 PM. ready, phoned Rhoda, left to streetcar, paid Albert three dollars, leaving 17. Home, talked, read paper, supper, lay down for a while, slept, got water in, read, bed.

September 17, 1949 Saturday

7 AM dressed, tea, shaved, washed, ready, KR. Left to corner street car to work, talked, got trips away. orders till 12:30 PM.  Phoned Rhoda, waited for Clare to come with my windbreaker he borrowed till 1:15 PM, locked up, over to Prince Edward Bowling to get alleys lined up, then to Donald Street streetcar, to Elmwood. To Lil's to get wagon, talked to Eleanor for a while, to Safeway store, did shopping, home by streetcar, talked about Lois,  Jessie B. here laid down then to playground to get kids, then to store for bread, home, read, supper. talked, slept, gave kids money to spend at fair, slept till 10 PM, put Gail's bike in shed, talked, then bed.

September 18, 1949 Sunday

cloudy and cool raining

up at 3 AM Rhoda woke me, she thinks she should go, phoned Mrs. L and she's all excited, Phoned taxi, doctor and hospital, ready, take her to Misericordia hospital, checked her in, KR, out in taxi and back home by 4:30 AM. Talked to Mrs. L and then she left, talk to Jack, Then to bed, then slept. Up at 9:30 AM dressed, got breakfast for kids, phone the hospital, nothing yet, Mrs. L phoned, Lily phoned, breakfast, read diary, time 11:30 AM never finished this days diary...



September 19, 1949 Monday

cloudy warmer

up at 7 AM dressed, first night alone, lit fire, had breakfast tea, Jack up, ready, Left to corner street car to work, told them about addition to family, talk, orders, got trips away, stock till 930 am, out for coffee, cleaning place as Mr. Meadon is arriving today. More cleaning till 1:30 PM so it put us behind in the work, read, phoned home and Mrs. L says everything is okay, orders and stock all afternoon till 5 PM locked up, left to streetcar to Lil's had tea and a bun, shaved and washed. Left to catch streetcar at the corner to trolley bus to Misericordia hospital, talked to Rhoda till 8:15 PM, saw baby, quite a big boy, was born 10:30 AM Sunday 8 lbs. 12 oz. left on bus and streetcar to Lil's, kids okay, talked a while, then left for home talked to Lennox's then, bed

September 20, 1949 Tuesday

up 7 AM, second night alone, washed, dressed, had tea, locked up, left to corner street car to work, got trips away by 10:30 AM had Coffee, work till 12, lunch, back, orders all afternoon till 6 PM ready, locked up left to Café, supper took the bus to Misericordia, Talked with Rhoda., Jessie and Lil were there, Of course, they had to see the baby and made a big fuss, they left, KR, bus home then over to Lil's, ate, talked some, then home, read, did stuff for a while, bed.

September 1947 part 1

September 1, 1947 Monday
temperature at noon 70°F  Labor day
up 9 AM, Norma here knocking on door. breakfast, read, worked on record box till 12:30 PM, lunch, finished box, put casters on it put stuff away. Randolph came, went with him via streetcar to CPR railway yards to help him pile some lumber on a flatcar, watched the workers a while then walked to Main Street by Dufferin, stopped at a store where he bought some stuff, streetcar home. To Lil's where Rhoda was, talked, brought water home, read paper, supper, made a shoebox for the polish and brushes, sat outside a while made a smudge to keep mosquitoes away till 8:30 PM, Sat and talked, got water then did writing till 9:25 PM emptied can then to bed

September 2, 1947 Tuesday
temperature at noon 74°F

Up 7 AM, dressed, tea, KR, left to corner to streetcar to work, talked, orders and stock till 11:20 AM, out to Donald Street streetcar, home, talked, read, lunch left to corner streetcar and back to work, Did orders and stock till 5 PM left to Donald Street streetcar and home, talked, read paper, supper, outside for a while, got ready, walked to Lil's via Brazier Street, she was out, but we stayed and talked to Norma as we might not see her for some time as she is going east on Wednesday to become a Nun. Left, talked, home, put kids to bed got wood in, bed and did some loving

September 3, 1947 Wednesday
temperature at noon 74°F

Up at 7 AM, dressed, tea, shaved and washed, KR,  to corner street car, to work at 7:45 AM, talked and did orders all morning till 11:30 AM, Went to Café for lunch, back and played crib with Albert and Roy. Orders and stock all afternoon made out ticket orders, ready, left at 5:30pm to Donald St. streetcar home, talked, no phone yet, read paper had supper washed and dried dishes, got ready, Rhoda and I to corner streetcar to see Norma go but we figured we were too late so we stayed on the street car till Portage and Main then went windowshopping down to the mall and back, streetcar home, 10:30 PM, talked with Mrs. Lennox and Norman for sometime, they left, read, bed.

September 4, 1947 Thursday
temperature at noon 78°F

up 7 AM, dressed, tea, shaved and washed, KR, to streetcar to work, orders and stock till 11:30 AM, To Café for lunch, played crib with Albert and Roy till 12:30 PM I won one game, orders and stock all afternoon, left, home, in, talked, read paper, supper, laid down until 7:45 PM out and chopped small wood, Brought it in, then started to clean up garden but mosquitoes to bad, made four trips for wash water, after emptying water six trips, read till 9:30 PM did writing till 10:25 PM emptied can, to bed, did some loving

September 5, 1947 Friday
temperature at noon 81°F

Up 7 AM, dressed, tea, shaved and washed, KR, out to corner and streetcar to work, talked, went with truck and picked up Export cigs, back, unloaded, that trip away then country orders till 1130 a.m.. To Café for lunch, played crib with A and R, till 12:30 PM, country and city orders till 5:30 PM washed up, out, in cars to the Alexander docks, went on a boat ( the Agnes) rode down the river till two miles from Lockport, had supper, sang songs and other things, Back to Alexander dock at a 10:30 PM all staff from work were on the boat trip, Ron gave me a ride to the top of my street, home, talked, and emptied washtub, read, bed.

September 6, 1947 Saturday
temperature at noon 53°F

7 AM, dressed, tea, shaved and washed, KR, to streetcar, to work, helped get trip away, stock and orders till 11:30 AM, I wonder who is supposed to be the shipper around here? I don't care as long as there is no cut in wages, to sales meeting as I am on Bill Woods territory or a week he is on holidays. Lily was in and left some fig bars and candy for me, left at 12:30 pm to Donald St.
Home, no phone yet, lunch, Rhoda uptown, I slept till 3:30 PM, out, worked on garden, burnt junk from shed, Rhoda home, talk, lit fire got things going, read paper, supper, read, Outside burnt more stuff, put fire out, got water and stuff, talked, bed

September 7, 1947 Sunday

Woke up at 8:30 AM did some loving, up at 9:30 AM, dressed, lit fire, got breakfast ready, dressed Linda, out, dug garden, got spuds and peas, Beans poor yield, kids helped in usual way till 2 PM, lunch, read a while, Finished digging garden, put tools away, then slept till 3:30 PM, supper, read, chopped thick and thin wood and took both in, locked shed then got water and got kids in, covered schoolbooks with brown paper but couldn't finish them, emptied can, Did writing, talked, then bed

August 23, 1947 Saturday

up 7:30 AM, dressed, washed, tea and toast, Shaved, KR, left to corner to catch bus and streetcar to work, talked, ready, to Café coffee and a bun, then calling on accounts, to office at 10:30 AM, put orders in. Called on one more account, to office, talked to Bob Murdock About buying a house. broke a glass in the showcase by accident, talked, I waited for Lily who came at 1:20 PM talked, then went to her place for lunch talked she gave me some stuff to bring home left at 2:30 PM bus and streetcar home Gave Rhoda the stuff from Lily. Laid down Rhoda went shopping. out and raked the front lawn until seven, Quit because of mosquitoes and put stuff away, supper Rhoda's got the cold now, read, I went and got water and emptied wash water talked then to bed at 10:30 PM did some loving, slept

August 24, 1947 Sunday

up at 9:30 AM Rhoda feeling pretty bad,  Dressed, breakfast, kids up, Talked, out, piled wood all morning till 1 PM finished it, talked, Went and got water, got a few spruds up from the basement had lunch, cut grass till 3 PM, slept till about 5 PM, out, picked beans in the garden, got kids to go to store, fooled around till 6 PM fixing shed and also the yard, In, supper, got water, fooled around with Jack fixing train tracks, kids out so was able to put tracks together and connected up, but still won't go, so will have to take parts to electric shop, find out what's wrong, Kids in, talked a while, then did writing, 10:20 PM, read talked then to bed

August 25, 1947 Monday

up 7 AM dressed, tea, shaved, washed, KR out to corner, to work, in, talked, ready, to café for coffee and toast, Back to office, got stuff called on accounts till 11 AM, to warehouse, put orders in, talked, left on streetcar to home, read, slept for a half hour, left, bus to Erzinger's, talked, Left on afternoon calls, back by 4 PM, put orders in, talked and fooled around with the guys till 5 PM, I went to the street car and home, in read paper, supper, did a few things till dark, put stuff away, got water, emptied water, Read, had a snack, bed.

August 26, 1947 Tuesday

up at 7:15 AM Dressed, tea, shaved and washed, KR, left by bus and streetcar to Erzingers, 8:20 AM into office, talked and watched and helped Albert a while, walked around window shopping, Back at 10:30 AM, put orders in, 11:15 AM out to Main Street streetcar home, in, read, ate, lay down and slept till 1:30 PM, Rhoda woke me up, telephone men are here, watched them, talked with them, No phone for us yet, told Rhoda, left to corner to catch bus to work, in, talked, made a couple of calls back in, helped Albert all afternoon till 5 PM, out to Saratoga Lanes. Played two games won 1, 6:30 PM out to streetcar to home, in, read paper, supper, worked on kitchen floor putting stripping and beading down, finished, swept floor, cleaned up, emptied can and water, In, talked, read, to bed

August 27, 1947 Wednesday

up at 7:10 AM, dressed tea and toast, shaved and washed, KR, out to corner bus to Erzinger's in, out to café, To office left, made calls on Max's accounts, back in telephoned accounts, fellow there promised to have phone in on Thursday, girl in cafeteria introduced me to him, finished calls, to office at 10:45 AM, Put orders in, out to Main Street streetcar home, in, talked, lunch, got wood and water for Rhoda, left to corner bus, to office, phoned telephones, out on rest of calls till 3:30 pm put orders in,  helped with orders till 4 PM, then Bill Woods and I got bowling teams fixed, talked with Albert, Joe and Ray about bowling, left 5:30 PM to Donald Street streetcar home, Talked, read paper, lay down, slept till 8 PM, got wash water in, chopped wood and brought it in, put things away, did writing till 9:20 PM, talked and so to bed

August 28, 1947 Thursday

up at 7:20 AM, dressed, tea, shaved, washed, KR, out to corner streetcar to Erzinger's, in, got books ready, Checked stock, left at 9:20 AM, called on Max's accounts, to office at 11 AM, put orders in, talked, left to Main Street streetcar, home, talked had lunch lay down a while Left for street car back to work, called on more accounts till 4 PM, back to office put orders in, help with orders till 5 PM talked about bowling, left at 5:30 PM to Donald Street streetcar, home, no phone yet, read paper, Jessie and Gail Here for supper,  fooled around in Garden, Carol here, cut a lot of weeds down in front yard, Jessie, Lil and Lawrence were here a while to get Lily's Stuff finished weeds, put stuff away, sat and talked till 10 PM, Jessie and Gail gone home, kids to bed, talk and then to bed

August 29, 1947 Friday

up at 7 AM, dressed, shaved, tea, KR, left to corner street car to work, in, talked and got ready, called on accounts until 11 AM, to office, put orders in, talked, left to Main St. Streetcar, home, lunch, dozed, left to corner street car to office, in, talked, left, called on more accounts till 3:30 PM, To office, put orders in, talked, to Café on Graham Street then to HBC and to Eatons to get schoolbooks, to office, 4:30 PM, talked, out to beer parlor with Joe and Roy, two beers, then rushed to café To meet Lily she gave me a lot of meat and also some jam, to Donald Street streetcar, home no phone yet, Rhoda looked at stuff, then took some meat to her mother, back, read paper, Worked on a record player for sometime, found I had done it wrong, so left it for the time being, put stuff away, got water in, read till 10:30 PM, bed

up 7:30 AM, dressed, tea, shaved and washed, KR, out to corner to streetcar to Erzinger's, in, talked, got order book, Checked stock, called on 10 accounts, finished 11:30 AM, to office, put orders in, fooled around till 12:30 PM, out to bowling alley with Albert myself Ray, Joe and Ron D, bowled two games, my scores 196-165 Out, 1:30 PM, to Donald St. streetcar, met Mrs. Lennox and Betty Ann on the street car, home, talk, lunch, Rhoda going to do shopping,  took stuff from porch and put it away, finished after Rhoda got back, Still no phone, talked, read paper, supper, did the odd thing then to bed

August 31, 1947 Sunday

up at 9:30 AM, dressed, got breakfast ready for everyone, talked and looked at Garden, then chopped wood, Thick and thin, filled the porch with big wood, Jack got a cold and not feeling so good, but he went and brought a box of small wood in, talked, read, Trimmed tomato plants, pulled weeds and other things, with Rhoda helping, in at 3:30 PM Laid down, slept till 5 PM, supper, did the odd thing, read, we had supper in the dining room, talked most of the evening then went to bed

August 13, 1947 Wednesday
temperature at noon 63°F cloudy and cool

up at 7 AM, dressed,Tea, shaved, washed, ready, KR, out in car more trouble couldn't get it started. Got pulled out by neighbor it started. To Elmwood for E Smith to HBC, to Elmwood, and, to Erzinger's, talked and stuff, out at 9 AM to Café. Then to visit accounts in Weston back to Erzinger's, 11 AM, put orders in, talked, left for home for lunch, talked, slept an hour, left to visit accounts in the north end. Did it rain and how, got held back somewhat. back to work at 3:10 PM put orders in, talked, helped with orders till 5 PM. Left for home, talk, Read paper, supper, Took phonograph apart and made a shelf for the bookcase. Took family for a short ride then back home, did writing, read, ate, bed

August 14, 1947 Thursday
temperature at noon 61°F cloudy and cool

Up at 7 AM dressed tea, shaved, wash, KR, out in car left, got Smitty to HBC, to work, talked and helped with orders until 9 AM left to Garrick Café, snack and coffee Next to Elmwood and East Kildonan accounts come home, 12:30 PM, lunch, dozed out in car to do East Elmwood E K accounts till 4:30 PM To warehouse put orders in, helped with orders till 5 PM, picked up Randolph and Lena, home, in, talked, read paper, supper, talked, did some painting also other things out for a little ride then home. To bed early get some loving.

August 15, 1947 Friday
 temperature at noon 65°F clear

Up 7 AM, dressed, T, shaved, washed, ready, KR out in car and got Smitty to HBC then to work, talk and did orders till 9 AM, out to café for coffee and snack. In car to St. Vital accounts back to office at 12:30 PM put in orders left in car for home, lunch, read paper, left back to work, orders, till 5:30 PM. Out in car home, talked, read paper, supper. At first we weren't going but then we went and just made it, parked car and saw Shriners parade, very colorful, musical, they had four camels, then to car and to Ackroyd's place, talk etc. till 9:10 PM. Drove home via Broadway and Portage Avenue in, talked, bed.

August 16, 1947 Saturday

7 AM, dressed, tea, shaved, washed and ready, KR, out in car to work, talked at work, worked on orders till 10 AM. Phone accounts then to sales meeting at 11:30 AM till 12:30 PM, Archie never came, in car took Roy and Max home, home at 2:30 PM talked and had lunch. in car to market and stores, then for a ride To customers, home supper, read, did a few things, Took a short ride around neighborhood in, backed car in, read, bed.

August 17, 1947 Sunday
temperature at noon 68°F cloudy and cool

Up at 8 AM, dressed and washed, talked had breakfast, then we rushed around and finally got ready, in car to Lennox's at 9 AM, waited till 9:15 AM then we rush to CNR station to catch the train let them out five minutes to go, parked car but cop made me move it, was I mad, parked behind station, then ran out on track and just caught the train. Started to look for the rest, found them, but for a while I couldn't and was worried whether they were on the train, to grand beach. Train at grand Beach at 10:50 AM then to Victoria Beach at 11:20 AM, Met Norman, walked around, had lunch, Jack was sick pains in his stomach, but okay after we moved to another spot. They all went swimming till 5 PM except me. to Cox's house and supper, to train, Waited an hour, then to Winnipeg via grand beach arrived in town at 10:30 PM, car was okay, then drove home backed car in driveway, to bed.

August 18, 1947 Monday
temperature at noon 73°F clear and warm

Up at 7:15 AM, dressed, T, shaved, ready, KR. Left in car and got Smitty to HB, to work, I have to take Max's territory for two weeks, out, Main Street and stuff till 11:30 AM To office, put orders in, streetcar, had to change to bus, road caved in, home, More using Street car for a while, lunch, talked, slept, Went uptown and called on a few more Accounts. To office, put orders in, helped in warehouse till 5 PM took streetcar home, read paper, talked and had supper, looked at Garden, cut and put rest of Linoleum down, looks okay, read, put stuff away made a slight error, but it's okay, got water in, talked, bed.

August 19, 1947 Tuesday
temperature at noon 76°F cloudy

Up at 7 AM, dressed, tea, shaved, washed and ready, left to corner caught bus, to work, in, talked, did a few work orders, Out at 8:50 AM tried to sell Ray old black batteries all morning but no luck back to office at 11:30 AM, talked, did a few things left on streetcar to home, talked, had lunch, read, lay down for 40 minutes, slept, ready, to Corner to catch the bus and streetcar to work, inside all afternoon help with country orders till 5 PM, Out to Saratoga Lanes, two games with Roy won both, left at 5:50 PM on streetcar to home, supper, read paper, Cut grass raked it at the front too dark, put stuff away got water in an emptied water, ate, read, and then to bed

August 20, 1947 Wednesday
temperature at noon 73°F warm

Up at 7:10 AM, dressed, feels like I have caught a cold, tea, shaved and washed, KR, left to corner to catch bus to work, talked got ready to go to Café, I will be calling on accounts, Max's till 11:30 AM, to office, put orders in, talked, left on streetcar to home, in, read, lunch, lay down and slept a while, KR left to corner, bus to work, talk, called on a few more accounts. To office, orders in, helped in warehouse till 5 PM, out to Saratoga lanes with Walter, one game lost, streetcar home, talked, supper, feeling tough with the cold, laid down, did not do much all evening, got water, read, bed.

August 21, 1947 Thursday
temperature at noon 73°F warm

Up at 7:40 AM, dressed, T, shaved and washed, cold is really bad, KR, left to corner to catch bus to work, in, talked and stuff, left called on accounts back to office at 11:30 AM. Put orders in, left To streetcar to home for lunch red, Rhoda says I shouldn't go but I will, slept for an hour, left to bus and streetcar back to work, talk, Boss had a meeting, stopped in at beer parlor, five beers out on streetcar To home, talked and read the paper, cold is really bad laid down, slept on and off until 9 PM, Went to get water and emptied water talked, to bed, up two or three times in the night on account of cold, finally got to sleep after trying.

August 22, 1947 Friday

Up at 7 AM dressed and tea and toast, KR, left corner to catch bus, to work, got ready, calling on accounts come to office at 11:30 AM, put orders in, Feeling rotten, left on streetcar to home, lay down and slept an hour,, lunch, talked, left on bus in to work, in, back at 3:30 PM, helped around the warehouse till five, to the Saratoga lanes With Albert and Roy, against Walter and I, 12 games finished at 6:30 PM streetcar back home, top and read the paper, supper, slept most all night, got water and other things, read, back to bed.

Early August 1947

August 2, 1947 Saturday
temperature at noon 76°F
9:30 a.m. dressed breakfast, Paul, got fire lit And washing going shave, washed, ready, left to corner streetcar to Erzingers, in, talked and had a couple bottles of beer, I took Albert home also made a delivery to warehouse in, to community center, took Roy, Max, and Joe home, then took myself home. Talk, had lunch, laid down, slept till 3:30 PM, up and I went with family to Elmwood. Did some shopping, home, read a while, then left to Albert's house, I took them to the streetcar then home, In, talked, read, supper. At 8 PM I went to get Jessie and Gail To visit Aykroyds but they were out, stopped at market on the way back, then home, locked car, talk, read, bed, did some loving, then slept.

August 3, 1947 Sunday
temperature at noon 85°F up at 9:30 AM dressed, breakfast, talked, read, it is too hot to do much today. Lunch, laid down slept till 3:30 PM out, got water, emptied wash water, about 10 trips, top, read, dozed, Laid around in bathing suit all afternoon, supper, talked and read, out for a car ride at 9 PM, got Mum  with us, out highway to Birds Hill, back to Nairn and visited Randolph. Then I'm home, kids to bed then to bed slept.

August 4, 1947 Monday
temperature at noon 78°F up at 9:30 AM dressed, breakfast, talked, read, fooled around all morning, lunch, Read, Around 3 PM started to make a bookcase, got sides and back together, finished one side. Supper. Did a little more on the bookcase put stuff away, talked, in car to city Park at 8:15 PM had ice cream, home at 10 PM. Got water in, shaved, writing, washed, well my holidays are over for another year what a great week. I wonder what happened at work. Talked, then to bed

August 5, 1947 Tuesday
 temperature at noon 63°F up at 6:50 AM, dressed, washed, had tea, shaved, KR, left, To corner in car, pick up Smitty, two fingers, to start another year of work, talk, helped with orders till 9:30 AM, then down, phoned for St. Vital, orders till about 11 AM. Turned orders in, out in car, home, top, lunch, ready with family to Main Street,To Lockport calling on customers all the way, Back on east side of the river to Birds Hill, then home, read paper, supper, I went to shed did some more work on the bookcase, in, then went for a ride to Talbot, And Morse Place, home locked car, talked, read for a while, bed.

August 6, 1947 Wednesday
temperature at noon 73°F I at 7 AM, dress, T, shaved, wash, KR, in the car to Harbison and Brazier, got Smitty, to Hudson Bay Company then to Erzinger's, in, talk, help with orders till 9:30am checked stock, in car calling on customers in Weston. Back to office and turned orders in, left in car, home, lunch,  in the car, called on customers in North End and to McLeods. Bought some paint and stuff. back to work, turned orders in, helped with city and country orders until 6:50 PM, in the car, home, talk with Rhoda, supper, read, Worked on the bookcase and tried out the paint. it looks good. put things away, got water in, talk with Rhoda, ate, bed. 

August 7, 1947 Thursday
temperature at noon 69°F cloudy and warm

up at 7:10 AM dressed, tea, shaved, Washed, KR, out in car to get Smitty to Hudson's Bay Company to Erzinger's. helped with orders till 9:30 AM in car called on Northend and Elmwood stores, Home for lunch, read, left to barbers to get a haircut, called on East Kildonan stores. Linda with me, To Transcona but got there late on account of car trouble. To work by 4 PM, talked, turned orders in and phoned a couple, then made two deliveries in St. Vital, had a flat tire, then went home. Talked, read paper, supper, talked, out in car with family, called on customers on St. Mary's Road back at 9 PM, locked car, in, emptied can and got water, did Dishes, talked, bed, did some loving, slept.

Up at 7 AM, dressed, tea, shaved, washed, ready. KR. Out in car, car won't go, to Doug's, phoned in to service station and got the truck to give me a pull. Got going, to work at 9:10 AM, talked, left for St. Vital, calling on accounts, met Herb Howe, talked, finished at 12 PM. To warehouse and turned orders in, then went for a few more and return, gave the orders in, help with orders till five, left in car to home, in, talked, read paper, Supper, outside and did some more on the bookcase, then went for a little ride to Main and Portage to airport then home, locked car came in, talk, kids to bed, did some loving, slept.

August 9, 1947 Saturday
temperature at noon 74°F

 up at 7 AM, dressed, tea, shaved, washed, ready, KR, left in Car to work, in, talked and stuff, out for coffee and moved car to parking spot, phoned accounts, then took Bill on three deliveries, Back at 12 PM took Max Klein home, then home myself, lunch, out, worked on bookcase till Rhoda's mother ready. In car to Elmwood did shopping, home at 4 PM. Did some more work on the bookcase but it got so hot I quit. Kids home from show, laid down a while, read the paper, supper, Lawrence and Jesse and Aunt Edna from the East are At Rhoda's Mums, so changed, after a while we went over, talked, she took our pictures, went inside because mosquitoes were bad. Lawrence and I went to LaSalle Hotel I drove his car. That's some car and how. I had four beers, back home, talked, had eats, tea and ice cream, left with family back home at 11:30 PM. Rhoda home. Betty Ann went with Lily and Jesse To stay for a couple of days, bed, slept.

August 11, 1947 Monday

up at 7 AM, dressed, tea, shaved, washed ready, KR. Left in car picked up Ed Smith. To Hudson's Bay Company then to work got in at 8:05 AM, talked, helped with orders until 9 AM, to café had coffee and snack, out to St. Vital, called on accounts, Back at 11:30 AM put in orders, talked, helped in warehouse, phoned a couple of accounts, out in car, home, lunch, left back to work, helped in warehouse till 4:45 PM, Rode around then home, talk, read paper, supper, did a little painting until 8 PM, out in car took Aunt Edna to Inkster Boulevard where she is staying, then to Jesse and Lil's. Took Jessie to drugstore talked, had one beer, read, out in car, had a little car trouble as usual and low on gas too, finally got home, talked and did the odd thing Around the place for a while. No phone yet, read and so to bed, slept.

August 12, 1947 Tuesday
temperature at noon 70°F cloudy and cool

up at 7 AM, dressed, T, shaved, washed, read, KR. Out in car, Thought I was going to be stuck in the mud but got out after throwing ashes on the dirt, got Ed Smith to Hudson's Bay Company then to work, in, talked, fooled around till 9:30 AM. To Bay had coffee and a snack, to Whiteys service station got car fixed, home, talk, took Jack with me to Lockport and birds Hill calling on accounts, home by 2 PM. Lunch, rolldown with me to Hudson's Bay Company then to Eatons left Rhoda there. To work talked, put orders in, got Rhoda, Went to farm and home supply and bought some linoleum, home, talk, read paper, supper, worked on bookcase a while painting back. Had to quit because J and L here, with Bett, talked, they left, read, bed no phone yet, slept.
