May 17 to 24 1971 ( Stanley Cup Final and Chris Adventure and Gerry first day at work)

May 17, 1971 Monday

Weather: cloudy and cool, temperature at noon 46°F
Up at 7:50 AM, dressed, shaved, breakfast, talked, listen to radio till 8 AM, KR, out in car to post office then to work, in, orders and trailer till 10:30 AM, tea, same till 12 pm. In car to Electrolux store paid payment, home, lunch, left back to work, orders till 3:30 PM, tea, same till 4:30 PM out in car, put mail in box, then to Zellers and picked up Rhoda, home, supper, Mr. Morris here, paid him $50 and he signed the paper, he's gone, out, took Rhoda back to work, home, laid down, slept till 8 PM, read paper, washed dishes, then out to Zellers to get Rhoda, home, had tea and cookies, bed.

May 18, 1971 Tuesday

Weather: clear, mild temperature at noon 51°F
Up at 2:30 AM to bathroom, back to bed, slept till 7 AM, dressed, shaved, washed, breakfast, listen to radio till 8 AM, KR, out in car to post office then to work did orders till 10:30 AM, they are now making a sliding door entrance to the north wall of our warehouse and the addition we have taken over, tea, same till 12, out in car, Home, lunch, read paper, back to work orders till 3:30 PM tea, orders till 4:20 PM put skids in front of door, left, put mail in box, took Paula home, to bakery got bread, home, talked, read paper, out at 5:50 PM to Zellers to pick up Rhoda, home talked, cleared table, supper, watched the hockey game until 10:15 PM score Chicago 2, Montreal 3, Montreal wins the Stanley Cup in seven games, Rhoda gone to bed, tea and cookies, then locked up and went to bed

May 19, 1971 Wednesday

Weather: partly cloudy and mild temperature at noon 55°F
Up at 7:05 AM, dressed, washed, breakfast, listen to radio, KR, out in car to post office, to work, in,  orders till 10:30 AM, tea, orders till 12, out in car, home, lunch, dozed, KR, left to work orders till 3:30 PM, coffee break, orders till 4:30 PM got mail, in car, took Paula home, to Zellers picked up Rhoda, home, set table, supper, out in car, Took Rhoda to work, home, lay down, slept till 6:30 PM, everyone is out, washed dishes, outside and dug up 2 flowerbeds at back, trimmed the grass in front, swept sidewalk, in, did writing, put books away, read till 9:40 PM, out in car, to Zellers, waited for Rhoda, home, read all evening, tea and bread, bed.

May 20, 1971 Thursday

Weather: cloudy and cool, temperature at noon 52°F
Up once in the night to the bathroom, slept till 6:50 AM, dressed, shaved, washed, breakfast, listen to radio, out at 8 AM, in car to post office to work, orders till 10:30AM, tea, same till 12, they now have the sliding door cut in the wall and ready to put the door onto the addition to the warehouse. Out in car, home, lunch, talked with Rhoda, her day off, KR, left, stopped at bank of Montreal, to work, orders till 3:30 PM, tea, orders till 4:15 PM put skids it in front of doors, talked with Mac, Rhoda was waiting at the car, she had been swimming with Bett and the kids today, took Paula home, set the table, supper, read, dozed till 7 PM, outside and planted Gladiolas and Dahlias, I don't expect the Dahlias to grow, they are too dry, put tools away, in, read till 6 PM had TN bed then went to bed.

May 21, 1971 Friday

Weather: fair and warmer, temperature at noon 58°F
Up at 6:50 AM dressed, shaved, breakfast, talk, called Gerry, he is going to work today in the warehouse. I get to teach him the ropes. Listen to radio till 8 AM out in car, Gerry with me, to post office, to work,  showed Gerry warehouse and got him started on orders, I did re packs and trailer what a mess with Don walking around and other things, orders till 10:30 AM, tea, same till 12, out in car, home, lunch, talked with Chris, read, left with Gerry, to work, in, orders and such till 3:30 PM, tea, same till 4:30 PM got cigs, talked with Mac, left, put mail in box, home. Chris has left to hitchhike with his girlfriend to Banff, he left a letter, hope he makes out okay, but because of Rhoda and I riding him, he left, but I think he would have left anyways, his letter sure hurt my feelings I wonder in what way we failed him. He will be back someday. It may do him a lot of good, going out on his own.

Sat around, cleared table, out in car to Zellers Rhoda came to Dominion Store got groceries, home, put stuff away, cleared and set the table.  Rhoda talked about Chris, now she's in the dumps, supper, dozed in my chair, talked a little, bed.

May 22, 1971 Saturday

Weather: cloudy and cool, temperature at noon 44°F
Up at 7:40 AM, dressed, washed, breakfast, out at 8:50 AM, took Rhoda to work went to Paint Your World, got a gallon of white and a brush, home, Mac phoned, dozed, ate, left a note for Gerry, went to warehouse, put Imperial Tobacco orders away, straightened stack, put up orders, left at 1:05 PM, home, lunch, read, lay down, read paper, stirred paint and painted till 5:50 PM, out in car to Zellers, got Rhoda, home, cleared and set table, supper, sat a while and dozed, Gerry gone out, finished painting bedroom cupboard, put stuff away, talked with Rhoda, had tea and bread, then went to bed.

May 23, 1971 Sunday

Weather: partly cloudy and cool temperature at noon 45°F
Up at 3 AM to bathroom, Gerry never came home, turned lights out, went back to bed, slept till 8 AM, up, dressed, Gerry came in,  went downstairs, vomited, he has been at a party and stayed there, he says. Rhoda mad at me about it. Gerry not feeling very good and went to bed, I slept in chair till 10:30 AM, tea, checked bills and did some writing until 12:05 PM, put books away, talked, lunch, mixed paint, put one coat in cupboard shelves in our room. Sat around I had a talk with Gerry about drinking, told him to be very careful, tea, put second coat on cupboard shelves, looks okay, pulled out my writing cupboard, took all the stuff out, then painted the inside, read and talked, out in car with Rhoda for a ride drove down Sturgeon Road north to number 221 E., Inkster Boulevard east to McPhillips Street then south and stopped for ice cream at St. Joseph's Dairy then continued south to Notre Dame, and west to St. James Street stopped and looked at all the trailers at our warehouse then to Portage Avenue and home. In, talked, read till 11:30 PM then bed.

May 24, 1971 Monday Victoria Day

Weather: cloudy and cool,  temperature at noon 43°F
Slept till 9 AM, dressed, shaved, washed, breakfast, out at 9:45 AM in car Rhoda and I to Morey Boulevard saw parade, to Ness, West, parked in Safeway lot, waited till 10:30 AM, parade going by, finished at 11 AM, went home, lunch, then out to Zellers, bought a few things, home, tried on my new golf jacket, Linda and Phil and the boys are here, supper, they left at 9 PM, I put up the cupboard with Gerry's help, put stuff in it, then did writing, read, then had tea, then bed.
