September 1947 part 1

September 1, 1947 Monday
temperature at noon 70°F  Labor day
up 9 AM, Norma here knocking on door. breakfast, read, worked on record box till 12:30 PM, lunch, finished box, put casters on it put stuff away. Randolph came, went with him via streetcar to CPR railway yards to help him pile some lumber on a flatcar, watched the workers a while then walked to Main Street by Dufferin, stopped at a store where he bought some stuff, streetcar home. To Lil's where Rhoda was, talked, brought water home, read paper, supper, made a shoebox for the polish and brushes, sat outside a while made a smudge to keep mosquitoes away till 8:30 PM, Sat and talked, got water then did writing till 9:25 PM emptied can then to bed

September 2, 1947 Tuesday
temperature at noon 74°F

Up 7 AM, dressed, tea, KR, left to corner to streetcar to work, talked, orders and stock till 11:20 AM, out to Donald Street streetcar, home, talked, read, lunch left to corner streetcar and back to work, Did orders and stock till 5 PM left to Donald Street streetcar and home, talked, read paper, supper, outside for a while, got ready, walked to Lil's via Brazier Street, she was out, but we stayed and talked to Norma as we might not see her for some time as she is going east on Wednesday to become a Nun. Left, talked, home, put kids to bed got wood in, bed and did some loving

September 3, 1947 Wednesday
temperature at noon 74°F

Up at 7 AM, dressed, tea, shaved and washed, KR,  to corner street car, to work at 7:45 AM, talked and did orders all morning till 11:30 AM, Went to Café for lunch, back and played crib with Albert and Roy. Orders and stock all afternoon made out ticket orders, ready, left at 5:30pm to Donald St. streetcar home, talked, no phone yet, read paper had supper washed and dried dishes, got ready, Rhoda and I to corner streetcar to see Norma go but we figured we were too late so we stayed on the street car till Portage and Main then went windowshopping down to the mall and back, streetcar home, 10:30 PM, talked with Mrs. Lennox and Norman for sometime, they left, read, bed.

September 4, 1947 Thursday
temperature at noon 78°F

up 7 AM, dressed, tea, shaved and washed, KR, to streetcar to work, orders and stock till 11:30 AM, To Café for lunch, played crib with Albert and Roy till 12:30 PM I won one game, orders and stock all afternoon, left, home, in, talked, read paper, supper, laid down until 7:45 PM out and chopped small wood, Brought it in, then started to clean up garden but mosquitoes to bad, made four trips for wash water, after emptying water six trips, read till 9:30 PM did writing till 10:25 PM emptied can, to bed, did some loving

September 5, 1947 Friday
temperature at noon 81°F

Up 7 AM, dressed, tea, shaved and washed, KR, out to corner and streetcar to work, talked, went with truck and picked up Export cigs, back, unloaded, that trip away then country orders till 1130 a.m.. To Café for lunch, played crib with A and R, till 12:30 PM, country and city orders till 5:30 PM washed up, out, in cars to the Alexander docks, went on a boat ( the Agnes) rode down the river till two miles from Lockport, had supper, sang songs and other things, Back to Alexander dock at a 10:30 PM all staff from work were on the boat trip, Ron gave me a ride to the top of my street, home, talked, and emptied washtub, read, bed.

September 6, 1947 Saturday
temperature at noon 53°F

7 AM, dressed, tea, shaved and washed, KR, to streetcar, to work, helped get trip away, stock and orders till 11:30 AM, I wonder who is supposed to be the shipper around here? I don't care as long as there is no cut in wages, to sales meeting as I am on Bill Woods territory or a week he is on holidays. Lily was in and left some fig bars and candy for me, left at 12:30 pm to Donald St.
Home, no phone yet, lunch, Rhoda uptown, I slept till 3:30 PM, out, worked on garden, burnt junk from shed, Rhoda home, talk, lit fire got things going, read paper, supper, read, Outside burnt more stuff, put fire out, got water and stuff, talked, bed

September 7, 1947 Sunday
temperature at noon 52°F

Woke up at 8:30 AM did some loving, up at 9:30 AM, dressed, lit fire, got breakfast ready, dressed Linda, out, dug garden, got spuds and peas, Beans poor yield, kids helped in usual way till 2 PM, lunch, read a while, Finished digging garden, put tools away, then slept till 3:30 PM, supper, read, chopped thick and thin wood and took both in, locked shed then got water and got kids in, covered schoolbooks with brown paper but couldn't finish them, emptied can, Did writing, talked, then bed
