up about 10am dressed, lit fire, got breakfast ready, talked & read, got pump going, washed up & stuff, piled wood til 1:30pm, lunch, laiddown for awhile, chopped wood, Jessie & Gail here, talked, Betty Ann’s ears going again, supper, sat around & talked til 10, kids to bed, read & talked, bed.

April 2, 1951 Monday Weather: clear & mild

up 7am, dressed, tea, shaved & washed, KR, left to corner, streetcar to Erzingers, orders and stock til 1pm, lunch, out for a walk, orders all afternoon, coffee at 3:30, orders til 5, phoned Rhoda, left to portage streetcar, home, read paper, supper, talked, ran pump til 9, got water, put pump away, read & talked, bed.

April 3, 1951 Tuesday Weather: clear & mild

up 7am, dressed, tea, shaved & washed, ready, KR, left to corner streetcar to work, orders and stock til 9:30, coffee, orders til 1, lunch, read, out to Hbay & back, orders for country & city til 5, New fellow started today, did Macdonalds & Imp orders, phoned Rhoda, out to Portage streetcar, home, talked, read paper, supper, dozed, did the usual chores, shaved & washed, got ready, to corner streetcar, to Bowling Alley, bowled 600, Albert was there, streetcar home, read, ate, talked, bed.

April 5, 1951 Thursday Weather: clear, mild, temp at noon +55F

up 7am, dressed, tea, KR, left to corner streetcar, to work, talked, orders & stock, out for coffee, orders til 1, home, in, read, lunch left to corner streetcar, back to work, orders, so we are getting a cost of living raise, not enough though. Orders most of pm, left for home, in talked read paper, supper, dozed for a while, got wood, bed.

April 6, 1951 Friday Weather; clear, mild, temp at noon +45F

up 7am, dressed, tea, shaved & washed, KR, left to corner streetcar, to Erzingers, lecture from boss, wants me to get there earlier, orders til 9, out for coffee, got trips away, country orders til 1, Phoned Rhoda, out to Portage streetcar, home, lunch, gave Rhoda money, read, left , got a lift in a Eatons truck, in, orders til 5:30, gave Joe keys, locked up, home, talked read paper, supper, got water, sat around awhile, then got ready, Rhoda with me, streetcar to bowling alley, introduced Rhoda to team, bowled 787, out streetcar home in by 11:40, ate, read, talked, bed.

April 8, 1951 Sunday Weather: cloudy, cool, temp at noon +38F

up 9:30, lit fire, breakfast, got slight headache, mooched around, finally out and chopped wood & brought some in, brought coke in, Rhoda dashing around going out with Margaret Harvey to see Shriners, put chris to bed, laid down, dozed, Rhoda back, talked, lit heater, played with Chris and played records, supper, listened to radio til 9:30, went to store with Rhoda & back, wrote in diary, read ate, shaved, bed, 10:40pm

April 10, 1951 Tuesday Weather: cloudy, cool, snow, temp at noon +40F

up 7am, dressed, tea, ready, Kr, left to corner, streetcar, to Erzingers, busy with orders til 9:30, out for coffee, back, orders til 1pm, lunch read, talked, dozed, phoned Rhoda, back to work, city and country orders til 4, made out Macdonalds & Imp (Imperial?) Orders til 6, phoned Rhoda, streetcar home, talked, read paper, supper, did usual chores, got ready, Rhoda & I to streetcar after walking down to Sydney bowling Alleys, Bowled, out to Portage streetcar, home, kids in bed, ate, read, talked, then bed ourselves. Finance Minister Abbott brought down Budget & new cigarettes will be either 39¢ or 41¢ a pack so we will work like mad tomorrow, repricing. Bed.

April 11, 1951 Wednesday Weather: cloudy, cool, temp at noon +24

up 7am, dressed, tea, shaved, washed, KR, to Erzingers, so the balloon goes up, lots of work, coffee at 9:30, lunch at 1, phoned Rhoda, told her I would probably be working tonight, back to work, orders all afternoon, went for coffee then worked right through til 8pm. Locked up, out to streetcar, to Lil’s talked, ate, Rhoda came, out to see house on McIntosh, sat & talked til 11pm, out to Johnson streetcar home, in ate, read, talked, bed.

April 13, 1951 Friday Weather; cloudy, cool, temp at noon +38

up 7am, dressed, tea, KR, left to corner, to Erzingers, talked, then orders, out for coffee at 9, worked on orders til 1, phoned Rhoda, phoned orders, out to telephones paid bill, back to work, orders til 3, tempo is slowin down now, coffee, back, orders til 6, out with Joe C, 1 beer at St. Regis, to Donald St streetcar, home, supper, Chris had a bad fall today, bruised, got water, left to corner streetcar, to bowling, too tired, bowled awful, out with Phylis, streetcar home, met Bruce Simpson & talked with him on the way home, home, read, ate, bed.

April 14, 1951 Saturday Weather: cloudy, cool, snow, temp at noon +27

up 7am, dressed washed, streetcar to Erzingers, talked, orders, kinda rushed for awhile, finished, noon, phoned Rhoda, left to streetcar home, laid down, slept til 3, Norman here, lit heater, Rhoda got home about 6, to Mum’s to see her new spring coat, home, supper, read & played with kids most of night, wrote in diary, talked, bed.

April 15, 1951 Sunday Weather: cold, snow temp at noon +28

up about 9, dressed, Rhoda’s got a cold, lit heater, got than going, then heated kitch, got chris up - rest of family up, breakfast, sat around for awhile then played chinese checkers with Betty Ann & Jack til Jack got sore cause he lost, so quit, played with B. Ann til about 3pm, talked, read, out to chop wood til 5:10pm, chopped small wood, brought coke in & small wood, emptied washer & filled it, supper, read, listened to radio most of night, read for awhile, then bed.

April 16, 1951 Monday Weather: clear, milder, temp at noon +30

up at 7am dressed, tea, shaved & washed, got armful of wood in, KR, left to corner streetcar to work, in, talked, stock til 9, out for coffee, stock & cleaning til 1pm, lunch, dozed, phoned Rhoda, orders & stock all afternoon, ready at 5:30 after doing receiving book, home, talked, Prince the labrador dog next door choked itself to death somehow. Earnest Bebin British Foreign minister died & a fellow shot & killed 5 people today in Manitoba, read most of evening after supper did chores til 10 read, bed.

April 18, 1951 Wednesday Weather: cloudy, cool, temp at noon +38

up at 7am dressed, tea, shaved & washed, got water, KR left to corner streetcar, to work, talked, counted cigarette stock, New cigarettes in so worked on that most of morning, had coffee and lunch at usual times, had a little argument with boss about cigarette stock, out to bank, to St Regis - paid $50 deposit for banquet, back to Erzingers, orders & stock all afternoon, did receiving book, phoned home, left on streetcar, read paper, supper, slept til 8:30, played with Chris then put him to bed, read til 9:30, got wood & water, read.

April 19, 1951 Thursday Weather cloudy cool, temp at noon 32+

up at 7am dressed, tea, shaved & washed, KR, left to corner streetcar to Erzingers, talked, Joe Crian away for a few days, orders & stock most of morning, lunch at 1, dozed & talked with John R til 2, orders til 3, out for coffee, back orders til 5:30 did receiving book, left for home, talked, read paper, supper fixed fire. Rhoda gone to a shower for Evans girl, got read talked with kids, left to go to Sydney Bowling Alley, the team showed up & we well. Streetcar home, Rhoda’s mother here & I told her not to stay, she’s gone. Fixed doors, got ready for bed.

April 21, 1951 Saturday Weather: cloudy, cool, snow, temp at noon 34+

up at 7am dressed, tea, shaved & washed, got wood, lit fire, to corner streetcar to Erzingers, talked, orders, got trips away and orders & stock all morning, went for a coffee, left, to Eatons bought a few groc’s, streetcar home, talked, had lunch then laid down. Rhoda & I slept til about 3pm, kids home, did a few things around house while Rhoda did shopping, fooled around doing this and that all evening, to bed 11pm

April 22, 1951 Sunday Weather: cloudy, cool, temp at noon 35+

up at 9, dressed, lit fire, got breakfast ready, got rest of family up, ate, read, talked for awhile, emptied water, got water, got wood, lit heater, then decided to sort clothes, old stuff, lunch, then got stuff down from attic, Rhoda & I sorted it over, chucked at lot of it away, took us 2 or 3 hours til about 4:30pm, cleaned up place a bit, read, supper, read talked most of evening, did bowling scores, bed 11pm

April 25, 1951 Wednesday Weather: cloudy, warm, temp at noon 42+

up at 7am dressed, tea, shaved & washed, KR, left to corner streetcar to work, still no tobacco, orders til 9, out for coffee, back, trips away, stock & some orders til 1, lunch, read, ate, out to Breen Motors, met Art & hes bought a new Dodge & its lovely - we will see how they will act after they learn to drive – I drove it to Chalmers & into backyard, lunch there, talked for awhile, left to corner streetcar, back to work, in orders & stock til 5pm, talked for awhile, left to portage streetcar, home, read paper, supper, then we went to the show, Rhoda, Jack & I, at Roxy, saw Pride of the Yankees & Trouble, out at 10:30, walked home, read, ate, bed.

April 27, 1951 Friday Weather: cloudy, rain, temp at noon 51+

up at 7am dressed, tea, shaved & washed, first thunder of the season woke us up, ready, KR, left for work, well tobacco in finally & we got lots of work to do & Joe still away. Out for coffee, orders & stuff all morning til lunch, work til 3, coffee then worked right through til 9, out to portage, still raining, home, Rhoda says Art was around in the car to show her, talked, ate, bed.

April 28, 1951 Saturday Weather partly cloudy, temp at noon 44+

up at 7am dressed, tea, shaved & washed, Rhoda still mad about last night, to corner streetcar to work, orders & stock all morning, got trips away, out for coffee, back, some orders which we found that should of been out earlier, did receiving book, Lil as in, fixed parcel for her, shes gone, loaded Lloyd, then til 1;15, Loaded Eric, got ready went to Express offic, sent parcel to Norma for Lily, streetcar to Elmwood, Art’s place, got car, home, lunch then took Rhoda to Safeway, did shopping, too Lil home, got Eleanor & kids Y Jessie & Gail, home, put in groc’s, then took Eleanor out & she drove all around by Bird’s Hill & Talbot and back to their place, home, took pants to cleaners & took kids for a ride, home, read paper, had supper, out in car, picked up Art at Post Office & took his friend home, then to his place, ate, in car home, Rhoda wouldn’t come cause Jack wasn’t around so took B.A and Linda around downtown, then to Albert’s then home then to Arts, walked home from there, Rhoda mad. Ate, bed.

April 29, 1951 Sunday Weather: partly cloudy, warm, temp at noon 52+

up about 10am, CD time now, phoned Art– its off, got breakfast ready, ate, laid down for awhile, up, emptied water & got water, chopped wood. Art phoned - going for a ride, so ate & got ready, left at 3, Art & My family to city park, me driving, there til after 4pm, then out by south road to Headingly, stopped there for awhile & had hot dogs & ice cream, back by 5:30pm, Art drove car from there, talked, read, dozed, supper, talked most of night, bed by 11

April 30, 1951 Monday Weather: partly cloudy, rain, temp at noon 62+

up at 7am dressed, tea, shaved & washed, ready, KR, left to work, talked, orders, waiting for tobacco stock again, stock Y some order til 12, lunch, then out to Income tax place & filed return, back to erzingers, in, talked, orders & stock til 3, out for a milkshake, back, orders til 5, home, talked, read, paper, supper, napped til 8, out, took off winter doors off back & front & put on screens, played with chris awhile and then talked to Norman til 10, played with chris & put him to bed, time 10:55 talked and sewed shoe, bed.
