April 1, 1937 Thursday Weather: cloudy, snow, temp at noon +27F

up 8:30am, lit fire, breakfast, Lily up, did dishes, emptied ashes, brought in wood, swept floor, Dad gone out with Lily & Norma, played cards, dinner, radio, did dishes, music teacher here for norma, peeled spuds, tooth aching, read paper, took asprin, supper, shaved & washed, out over to Rhoda’s, she said she was glad I came, sat on porch til 10:45, had a cup of tea & buns, left 12:10am, took asprins, bed 12:15am

April 2, 1937 Friday Weather: clear & mild, temp at noon +34Fup 9:45am, breakfast washed, brought in wood, emptied ashes, Dad gone out, fixed the seeds in the boxes again, dinner, read, radio, Lily & Norma gone out, out to get a haircut, home, read til 5, ate supper, radio, dishes, changed, out to Jones with Rhoda, left their at 12:10am, to Rhoda’s (kiss) home 12:35, set clock, bed.

April 3, 1937 Saturday Weather: cloudy, mild, temp at noon +34F
up 6:50 am Dad called down, breakfast, brought Dad up some tea, dressed, out to streetcar, talk to J. McVicar, Erzingers at 8:05 am worked til 1pm, out in Austin, rode around, home at 3:05pm read paper, took 2 asprins, slept til 5, wrote in diary, supper, radio, shaved & washed, did dishes, washed & dressed, out over to Rhoda’s. Gave Mrs Lennox Feather Plume & Rhoda candy, talked on the porch til 10pm, played cards in the kitchen til 11:15pm, Rhoda washed her hair and I cut it for her – had tea and cake, Left at 1:10am (2K) home and bed 1:15am, spent 41¢, weight is 154 lbs

April 4, 1937 Sunday Weather: clear & mild, temp at noon +29F

up 10:45am, lit fire, Lily up, breakfast, read, played 5 games of rings til 1:30pm, won 3, washed, laid on chesterfield all afternoon, Lily home, peeled spuds & cabbage, read, supper, radio, Rhoda here, washed & shaved, dressed, played cards til 10pm, on chesterfield - we managed not to, thank goodness, I hope we keep it up - made a bet, quit smoking, left 11;30pm to Rhoda’s talk, I left at 12:30am, home and bed 12:48am

April 5, 1937 Monday Weather: clear & mild, temp at noon+41F

up 8:45am, breakfast, Dad up, fellow here measuring verandah, we borrowed money from bank under new scheme, Dad gone out, emptied ashes, brought in wood, read, dinner, radio til 1:15pm, washed, wrote in diary, out to Dr Metzler - Dentist, made arrangements to have my teeth out, will cost $40. To Rhoda’s told her about it, there til 5pm, home, read paper, Rose here, slept, supper, radio dishes, played rings, Rhoda here at 8:30pm, talked read, she knitted, Lily & Art out, Bob here, he’s gone, laid on chesterfield & the usual – its got to stop, left 11;30pm to take Rhoda home, back home 12:05, bed

April 6, 1937 Tuesday Weather: cloudy & mild, temp at noon +40F

up 8:20am breakfast, out to dentist, had 4 teeth pulled, home 9:55am, laid on chesterfield, started to play rings, couldn’t, quit, dinner, feeling funny, laid down, up, finished dinner, dozed til 1:30pm, took tablet dentist gave me, read, laid on chesterfield most of afternoon, stuff for veranda came, insulation and lumber, cut & carried it & I piled it in our room 70 bags of it, read paper, set table, supper, radio, did dishes, laid on chesterfield til 10pm, had cup of cocoa, bed, spent $7.10 at dentist.

Hartz & Pete, talked, Met B. Simpson & Mack, home, read, laid down on chesterfield, read paper, supper, radio, did dishes, read til 10pm bed 10:10pm

April 8, 1937 Thursday Weather; clear & mild, temp at noon +38F

up 8:30am, breakfast, swelling gone down, woke up Art, out to dentist, cleaned gums, didn’t pull anymore, go there tomorrow, home, talked, read, radio til 10:30am, Dad staying in bed, played 5 games with Art, won one, dinner, radio, dishes, diary, read, washed out, over to Rosies, then to bakery, to Rhoda’s, talked went for a walk to post a letter, saw J. Bain & Art, walked around for awhile, back to rhoda’s, then home, Art home, got paper read it, Lily home, helped her with supper, radio, fixed Norma’s bike, polished silver, Rhoda here, talked with Lily, out to Rhoda’s, she did not want me to but I went just the same, had a cup of tea & cake, home, bed 11:15pm
Spent $5 dentist, now owe dentist $28.00

up 7:20am lit fire, breakfast, took Dad a cup of tea, cleared table, Men her to start work, helped them til 10am, fixed the window, ran vacuum over one room & hall, dinner, did dishes, changed socks, diary, read (my p is bothering me, I wonder what I got now) watched them work on verandah, peeled spuds, read paper, supper, Lily home, radio, dishes, read, shaved & washed, out to Jones with Rhoda - then her mother comes - God it seems she has to spoil thing for me all the time no matter where we are, home 11:30, had tea & toast, to Rhoda’s, talked, I’m sore at her mother (1K) home bed 12:10am

April 10, 1937 Saturday Weather: clear, temp at noon +45F
up 7:05am, lit fire, breakfast, brought Dad up tea, washed, down to streetcar, talked to H. Morton on streetcar, to Erzingers, swept office & dusted, orders til 1pm, swept up and locked door, got $1.00. Out to Donald St. Streetcar, home, took 2 asprins, dozed, tea, bath, changed to summer underwear & garters, diary, read, laid down, supper, radio, dishes, lost my dollar, Lily found it & put it away, shaved & washed & dressed, out to Rhoda’s 8:15pm, talked, read, played cards, tea & cake, same old thing, I guess I am getting tired of her, I suppose, or maybe I’m looking at things wrong, we’ll see. Left 12:30am, home 12:50am, bed
my weight is 154 ½ pounds

April 11, 1937 Sunday Weather: clear, temp at noon+45F

up 10:15am, breakfast, talked, dishes, run vacuum over rooms, diary, read, over to schoolyard, watched them play ball, hit a few, home with Mac, borrowed some magazines, read, talked, supper, radio, shaved & washed, not feeling so good, left eye all puffed up, Rhoda here & am I glad she came & now I think I’m a fool for getting peeved over what I did – I will change forthwith – forgive me sweetheart. Bathed my eye, talked, read & loved til 12am, to Rhoda’s, she kissed me, home 12:20am, bed

up at 8:45am, at, laid down, slept til 12pm, dinner, laid on chesterfield & read til 3:30pm, shaved & washed, peeled spuds, laid on chesterfield, read paper, supper, dishes, laid down, radio, Rhoda here, everybody in bed, on chesterfield, petted, good going sweetheart, you’re doing swell, she left at 10:35, I never took her home for the 3rd time. Smoked a cig, bed 10:45pm

Bed 11:30pm

up 8:30am, breakfast, dishes, fooled around til 11, out to dentist, he’s out, back home, talked to carpenter, read, dinner, radio, dishes, talked to carpenter, diary, time 2:30pm, out to dentist, he was still out, home, watched them working on verandah, read paper, out to Jones, lit a fire, for Rhoda, Kay Inkster came & stayed & talked til 10:10pm, she said plenty too & bet Rhoda changes again, there, til 11:20, home, bed 11:45pm (on this date 1934 1st time I kissed Rhoda Jean Lennox, was it a mistake or is it going to turn out alright, only time will tell)

April 17, 1937 Saturday Weather: cloudy, temp at noon +54Fup 6:45am, lit fire, breakfast, talked to Dad, out to streetcar to Erzingers, swept & dusted office, orders til 1:30pm, finished, pay $1.00, home, listened to hockey game, 2 asprins, laid down til 5:20pm, teeth much better, supper, read paper, diary, dishes, drest, lent 25¢ to Art. Polished shoes, walked with Lily to Rosies, 8:30pm, shw was washing dishes when we got there, went to Rhoda’s, talked to Mr. Lennox about hockey, went for a walk to Poplar Ave & back, sat on porch, talked til 11pm, had tea & cake, left 1:10am home, bed 1:20am

April 18, 1937 Sunday Weather; cloudy, temp at noon +50F
up 11:10am, dinner, talked, dishes, place 7 card games, read, dozed, chopped kindling, laid on chesterfield til 5:30pm, supper, read til 8:20, up washed, out to Brazier & Johnson Ave, coming back met Rhoda & Kay at Montrose, walked to Chalmers then to her place, talked to Mr. Lennox, we talked, a few kisses, left 11:10pm, home, read ate, bed 11:30pm my weight is 152 ½ pounds

up 8:30am, breakfast, washed, out to dentist, back, helped Dad & Art, went to store for sugar, back and read, listened to radio, read, dinner, dishes, played 6 games, lost them all, read, watered flowers, out to dentist, met Edna Wheatley (Bye) talked to her for a half hour, home, read, laiddown, slept til 5:30pm, supper, dishes, shaved, out to Rhodas, she’s out, home, back to Rhoda’s, talked, played cards til 11pm, with Mr Lennox, out met Rhoda, she’d been to the show, talked, a few kisses, home, 12:30am bed.

April 20, 1937 Tuesday Weather: cloudy, snow, temp at noon +31F

up at 8:30am, down, breakfast, washed, dishes, out to dentist, he pulled 5 & then I got sick, home, went to bed, slept & dozed til 5, read paper, Lily back she told me that Rhoda would go, supper, Rhoda here, talked, she made me mad & I told her to scram, read, dozed til 11 - Lily back but no Rhoda, she would not come in, I’ll square that with her - just wait- ate some bread & cocoa, slept.

up 8:40am, breakfast, laid down til 12pm, dinner, talked, dishes, started on plants, am not feeling so good, diary, read, had to write in two days on account I wasn’t feeling good yesterday, fooled around with plants, transplanting - finished at four, laid down & dozed til 4:45, read paper, supper, dishes, washed, laid down on chesterfield, radio, Bob here, listened to radio til 10:30pm, bed.

April 22, 1937 Thursday Weather: cloudy & cool, temp at noon +41F


up 8:45am, breakfast, shaved & washed, made 2 boxes & transplanted plants, set table, dinner, Lily back, radio, finished transplanting, Dad up, diary, read, transplanted some snaps, laid on chesterfield, straighted up front room & ran vacuum all over, finished at four, read paper, supper, washed, changed, listened to radio in frontroom, Rhoda came at 8:30pm, we stayed too long & we just got to stop it all together - left at 11:30pm to Rhoda’s, talked, home at 12:20am, bed.

April 23, 1937 Friday Weather: cloudy & cool, temp at noon +43F

up 8:35am, breakfast, which wasn’t much, I’ll be glad when I get my new teeth, dishes, burnt shavings and other rubbish, emptied ashes, cleaned up, looked at garden, bleeding heart on east is showing, 10am to Rosies, talked to baker, to Robb’s Tobacco, home, knocked nails out of boards, Dad & carpenter gon to bank to pay him, Shirley here, Lily back, dinner, radio, dishes, peeled spuds, watered plants, Art gone out, puttied nail holes in window frame of front room, diary, read, ate, supper, dishes, dressed, out to Rosies, talked, helped them hang wallpaper til 9:30pm, out next door with Rhoda - Kay Inkster there & said she wanted me to walk home with her, but I would not, she left 10:15pm, laid on chesterfield, dozed, Jones home at 1:20am, walked to Winterton with Rhoda, home, bed 1;35am, Dad never came home. My weight is 148 lbs.

up 7am, lit fire, breakfast, washed, woke Lily, out to streetcar, snowing to beat the devil, Erzingers 7:55am, swept offic, worked on orders, country & city til 1:30pm, got two thermometers, to donald st. streetcar, home, Dad has not been home, talked, showed Lily thermometers, (met Rhoda’s dad on the street this morning) read paper, run vacuum in Dad’s & Lily’s room, hall & frontroom, to, diary, read, radio supper, shaved & washed, dishes, shovelled some snow off, washed, to bakers, to Rhoda’s, bread with me, talked to Mr Lennox til 9:30pm, with Rhoda on porch til 10:15pm played cards til 11:30, had tea & pie, left 12:30am, home, Dad in, talked to him, bed, spent 34¢ today

April 25, 1937 Sunday Weather: cool, wind, nnw, snow, temp at noon +32F

up 10:30am, Dad & Lily up, breakfast, Dad gone out, read, cleaned snow off sidewalk back and front, emptied ashes, Art up, dishes, diary, read, fooled around all afternoon, slept, set table, supper, radio, dishes, shaved & washed, Doug & Jessie here, Rhoda came at 8:05pm played cards til 10pm, not feeling so good, Lily gone to bed, had coffee & cake, laid on chesterfield til 12am, Art home, put on rubbers, out over to Rhoda’s , during the night, Rhoda & I talked about sex & when we are married and have two round eyed babies – I think I would be happy with her in married life - I hope so anyway. Home at 12:35am, bed.

up 8:10 am, woke Lily, lit fire, breakfast, took Dad tea & toast, started varnishing, Dad gone, varnished til 10:30am, out to Dentist, made a appointment for Thursday, home varnished some more, finished at 2:20pm, to store for tobacco, back, talked, played 4 games, won 3, put windows on, peeled spuds, read paper, Lily home, laid on chesterfield, slept, supper, Lily gave Norma a licking, radio, dishes, watered plants, diary, Art broke the toilet, shut off water, finished diary, read, laid on chesterfield til 9pm, plaid with Norma til 10pm, had cocoa & bread, Dad home & mad about toilet, read til 10:45pm, bed
