Streetcar, home, talked, got water, supper, out, worked around in garden & planted rest of the spuds, sat and talked & played with kids for awhile, read, til 11, emptied water, locked shed, bed 11:20pm

June 2, 1944 Friday Weather: partly cloudy, temp at noon +79Fup 7am, dressed, breakfast, ready, KR, left to corner, streetcar to Erzingers, stock and country orders all morning, had a row with Irene about the length of time she took for coffee so she took it to the boss and she got the worst of it - she may learn from that & she may not, out, lunch, back, stock and orders til 5:45, out to Donald St. Streetcar, home, talked, went to Max’s place & finished job, he gave me $5, had coffee & talked for awhile, left by bus & streetcar, home, talked for awhile, bed.

June 3, 1944 Saturday Weather: cloudy, cool, temp at noon +50Fup 6:50 am dressed, breakfast, ready, KR, left to corner to streetcar to Erzingers, in got trips away, stock and orders all morning, went for coffee and donut during the morning, left at 12:50 to donald street, raining to beat hell, home, talked, lunch, read, laid down, til 6pm, supper, shaved & washed, ready, left to Roxy Theater, saw Watch on the Rhine and Laurel & Hardy in Air Wardens, home at 10:50, ate, talked, bed.

up 10:30am dressed, breakfast, wet and miserable out, can’t do anything so cleaned up back porch & washed it, also fixed a few doors & such til around 3pm, read, ate, laid down slept til 6, supper, filled woodbox & brought in kindling, locked shed, in, talked, read, played records, played with kids til 10pm, read, wrote in diary, had something to eat and drink, then bed.

June 6, 1944 Tuesday Weather: fair, cool, temp at noon +50F

American, British, Canadian troops entered Rome on Sunday June 4. Today the Allied Forces invaded Europe in France at Le Havre – all is going as planned.

Up 6:50 am dressed, breakfast, ready, KR, got water, left to corner, to Erzingers in at 7:50am, got trips ready, left at 8:40 with orders for Central, St. Boniface and St. Vital, back at 11, stock, out to café for lunch, back, talked stock & country orders til 5:20, left to Donald St streetcar, home, in read, supper, read, looked at strawberries, planted geraniums and other stuff, in, talked, read, washed & dried dishes, chopped & brought in wood, talked, read, bed. The newspaper called this D-Day.

June 7, 1944 Wednesday Weather: fair, temp at noon +45F

June 9, 1944 Friday Weather: warm, temp at noon +72Fup 6:45, dressed, tea, shaved & washed, ready, KR, left to corner streetcar to Erzingers, order, left on first trip at 9, back at 11:45, cashed in, left on 2nd trip at 12:30, home, lunch took kids for ride in truck, back to warehouse by 3:30, cashed in, city orders & stock til 8pm, went out, & saw boss spying on us, the rat. To Donald St. Streetcar, home, to Lennox’s dug some more garden for them til dark, home, talked, read, bed.

June 10, 1944 Saturday Weather: fair, temp at noon +70F

up 6:40 am dressed, breakfast, talked, ready, KR, left to corner streetcar to Erzingers, in, got trips ready, left on St. Boniface and St Vital trip at 9am, back at 12, in finished up the city orders, left to Portage, streetcar to Redwood & Main garden store, bought some tomato plants and pansy and snapdragon, walked from there to Lily’s, talked, had something to eat, Lily & Norma gone out, laid down, fixed door for them, left, home, read paper, Rhoda and kids home, talked, planted stuff I bought, dug garden, supper, diary, read, bed.

June 11, 1944 Sunday Weather: partly cloudy, temp at noon +70Fup 9:15 am, dressed, breakfast, talked, got stepladder, took off windows, washed them then put on screens & painted them, put stuff away, talked to Don, borrowed cutters, cut grass around big garden, & raked it til 1pm, with Rhoda and kids to see Kenora (? transcribers note* this might be a river boat on the Red River ?) But missed it, back, talked, finished grass, put things away, talked, read, supper, shaved and washed and changed, out. Jack and I saw Kenora, but BA & Rhoda missed it on account of BA, we went for a long walk along river bank to Hiway and back, met Ackroyds, talked, looked at our garden, sat outside for awhile, put tools away, in, read, bed 10:40pm

up 7am, dressed, breakfast, talked, ready, KR, left to corner streetcar to Erzingers , left on trip at 9:30, home at 11;30, lunch, took kids for a ride, brought them back, KR, left, finished deliveries, warehouse at 1pm, orders and stock til 5:30, left to Donald St. Streetcar, home, talked, read, supper, read, out and puttered around in garden, digging & stuff til dark, in, read, bed.

June 13, 1944 Tuesday Weather: cloudy, rain, temp at noon +65Fup 7:10 am, dressed, tea, ready, KR, left to corner streetcar to Erzingers. Left on trip at 9:30, finished at 12:30, back, cashed in, talked, all warehouse staff gone at 3 except me, there til 5, worked on stock, talked to boss, left to donald street streetcar, home, read paper Toronto Star, out, looked at garden and sat around for awhile, laid down slept til 9:30, sat outside on verandah for awhile, put kids to bed, Rhoda gone to bed, read, locked up, bed.

June 14, 1944 Wednesday Weather: fair warm, temp at noon +72Fup 7am, dressed, tea, shaved & washed, ready, KR, left to corner streetcar to Erzingers took I.T.S.C order in and put away by 10:30, country orders & worked on stock cards til 2pm, stock til 4pm, city orders til 5pm, locked up, stopped at beer parlor, 1 beer, to Donald st streetcar, home, in, talked read paper, supper, weeded garden til dark. Mrs L was over & talked for awhile, Rhoda at sing song with Mrs A, Rhoda back from her mothers and says she is all worked up again, this time over how I dug the garden, nuts if I’ll do anything for her. Talked, diary, time 11:15pm, bed.

June 15, 1944 Thursday Weather: fair warm, temp at noon +73F
up 720am, dressed, teeth on right side still bothering me, tea, ready, got water for Rhoda, KR, left to corner, to Erzingers, in at 8:10, stock til 11:30, out to café for lunch, back orders and stock all afternoon, when and got truck, talked with Mr. McCellard & Cameron for awhile, locked up, left to eatons, got pictures, to Donald St. Streetcar, home, talked, read paper, supper, went to Rosies, walked back at 9:30pm, talked to Dows for awhile in the yard, 10:05, read, had a drink went to bed.

Rhoda & BA gone to the show, put stuff away, put Jack to bed, laid down & dozed til 12, Rhoda home, talked, and so to bed.

up 7am, dressed, breakfast, talked, ready KR, left to corner streetcar to Erzingers, in, put trips away, t&c orders til 12, talked, left 12:30, to Lilys she had her kitchen window fixed, talked, Rhoda came with her shopping, rolled up kitchen linoleum & put on verhandah, talked, left, home, put stuff in, read, supper, read, picked a few strawberries from garden for tomorrow, talked and so to bed.

June 18, 1944 Sunday Weather: cloudy, cool, rain, temp at noon +56F Up 10:30am, dressed, lit fire, breakfast, talked, looked at garden, too wet out, fixed light in bedroom, made a small shelf in pantry, laid down, slept til 4:30, up, washed dishes, shaved & washed, changed, went out to store & back, Lily & Norma here at 5:30, talked, supper, sat outside for awhile, they left at 12, talked, bed.

June 20, 1944 Tuesday Weather; cloudy, cool, temp at noon +67F

up 7am dressed, tea, ready, KR, left to corner after getting water, streetcar to ERZ, in, talked got trips away, nothing doing all morning, 11:30 out to café and then to bank, back, F.D. gone home, sick he says, country orders til 5:10, had to go and get exports, talked, locked up, lefthen then took girls home in bosses car because it was raining hard, back to warehouse, left keys, to Donald st, streetcar, home, headache, laid down, slept til 8:30 pm up ate, talked, looked out at garden, and then Rhoda and I tried to fix bicycle seat, then picked strawberries til dark, talked, bed.

June 21, 1944 Wednesday Weather: cool, temp at noon +59Fup 710am, dressed, shaved & washed, got water, back, tea, ready KR, street car to ERZ, in talked, F Dragon away, put MacDonald’s stock away, took IJSC put Tucketts away & thin I TSC til 11:30 out to café, back, stock and orders all pm til 5 left to Donald st. streetcar home, in, talked, read, supper, cut weeks down with hoe, cultivated some spuds, put stuff away, picked two small bowls of strawberries, talked, oiled washer, got wood and water in, and locked shed, time 10:20, read, writing, had a drink, bed.

June 22, 1944 Thursday Weather: milder, temp at noon +60F

up 7am, dressed, breakfast ready talked, KR left to corner streetcar, to Erzingers, orders and stock til 11:30, out to café, lunch, back read, talked, country & city orders all afternoon til 5:15, left to donald st streetcar home, talked, Mrs L. Here & gone, read paper, supper, talked, more trouble with Rhoda’s mother, nothing but, talked, out dug Mrs. L.’s garden and raked it, home, hoed up all the spuds & cleaned it up, talked, read for awhile, bed.

June 23, 1944 Friday Weather: fair & warm +53Fup 7:10 am dressed, tea, shaved & washed, ready, KR, left to corner streetcar to Erzingers, in, stock, got trips away, orders til 11:30, out to café, lunch talked, back orders and stock all afternoon til 5:30, out to Donald st streetcar, home talked, read paper, supper, dug some of Mrs. L’s garden, back, played around with my own garden, picked strawberries, talked, read til 11:30, then to bed.

June 24, 1944 Saturday Weather: partly cloudy, showers, temp at noon, +59Fup 6:50 am, dressed breakfast, ready KR, left to corner to Erzingers, in, got trips away, orders and some stock til 12, with F. Dragon to Towneys, got a bunch of stock, made 2 trips, finished at 2:10, beer parlor, two beers, home on streetcar, no one home, in, laid down, slept. Rhoda home, showed me a letter from recruiting office asking me to join, talked, Norma here, read paper, talked, out and picked strawberries, did the odd thing around the house, emptied wash water, got fresh waster, had a bath, read, & talked til about 12 or so, then bed.

June 25, 1944 Sunday Weather: fair but rain, temp at noon +60F

up 9:30am, dressed, breakfast, out, emptied water, cut & raked some grass, talked, looked at garden, Norma here & rode my bike, shes gone, cultivated, garden, sat on chesterfield and dozed, Rhoda lying on bed, too much noise, banging doors & aeroplanes, went and phoned W.E.R for Mrs. L, wire down, back, talked, planted more peas & radish, and also melons, Norma & Shirley came, talked, went, shaved & washed & changed, out to stores and back, Jack with me, got cream, home, read supper, talked, out to river, saw Kenora, back, picked strawberries but mosquitoes nearly drove me mad. In, help clean strawberries, got them ready and each had a dish of strawberries and cream and bread. Rhoda gone to Mrs. L’s, talked about it when she got back, bed.

June 26, 1944 Monday Weather; cloudy, rain, temp at noon +69F

up 7am, dressed, tea, ready, KR, left to corner streetcar to ERZ, talked, got trips away, orders & stock til 11;30, put Towneys away, & found an error in the shipment, told Mr McCellend about it & of course we had to go over it again and check and double check. He’s got a brain like a snail. To lunch, back, talked, read, orders & stock all afternoon til 5pm, locked up left to Donald street streetcar, home, supper, read, talked did this and that in the garden til dark, in, read, bed.

June 27, 1944 Tuesday Weather: cloudy, rain, temp at noon+58Fup 7am, dressed, tea, got water, back, KR, left to corner streetcar to Erzingers, in, talked, got trips away, checked stock, & the basement got flooded, orders & stock all afternoon til 5pm, got ost of the flood washed away, locked up, to Donald st. streetcar, home, talked, read, supper, rain off and on all night, so couldn’t do much, read til 11pm, bed.

June 30, 1944 Friday Weather: fair, warm, temp at noon +68Fup at 6:50 am, dressed, tea, shaved, got all the wash water for Rhoda, KR, left to corner streetcar to Erz, in, orders & stock after getting trips away, I brought some strawberries for the girls, orders til 11:30, out to café, lunch, talked to Roy H. Back, orders all afternoon, locked up, left to Donald st streetcar, home, talked, supper, went around fixing this and that, sat on front verandah. Mrs Dow came over and asked if we would play whist, so we did, my score 122, no prize, ate, had a drink, talked, came home about 12:30, bed.
