July 1, 1931 Wednesday weather:

At Grand Beach - up usual time, dressed, breakfast, out met Kelly, talked to her friend, Harry’s cottage, went out with him, met 2 women, talked, left to his cottage for awhile, to dance hall, women ditched us, to cottage, in, to bed.

July 2, 1931 Thursday weather:

At Grand Beach - up 9 am, dressed, breakfast, out, got ice, water, milk, to cottage, put stuff in, out, met 2 friends of Jacksons, Margaret MacDonald & friend Harry, I went for a walk with them, but Jackson tagged along, he wouldn’t take a hint, took them to their cottage then to mine, in talked then bed.

July 3, 1931 Friday weather: cool

At Grand Beach - up 1pm, dressed, lunch, out, got ice, water & milk, to cottate, out to Harry’s there all morning, to cottage, back to Harry’s at 2:30 pm down to Station met train & fooled around with some girls, to cottage, supper, out to Station, watched train, fooled around with Kay & Margaret till train backed in, got on train with Rose, Lil & children - left, got in Wpg at 12 am, Harold & Bob there to meet us in Bob’s car, home, in talked with Mum, then bed.

July 4, 1931 Saturday weather: cloudy, rain

up 9am * fixed blind, Bill here, went for a ride in his car, home, in, garage, talked to Art, in, read paper, set table, lunch # , Bill came, went for a ride, Art with us, til 4:30 pm, home, in, supper, # out, rode around in car awhile, then walked to the beer parlour, had 2, home, in read, bed.

up 10 am * # out for awhile, home, in, lunch, Rose here & Doug, both gone, had supper #, out, met Bill, asked him to take Rose & Harold to Transcona, he did, back out to Kildonan, then put car in, home, 11pm, in read, bed.

up 8am, *, walked uptown to Free Press, Eatons, met Walter Kressal, talked, then we walked home by 11:40 am, in lunch, then helped to finish the washing. Dad back, #, out to park, talked there til 5pm, home, in read paper, supper, #, out to park, there til 9pm, walked over to St. Johns’, met a few women and an old friend of Bill’s, Irene & Mary, in read, bed 12 am.

up 7:40 am * to garage, made a box, then chopped wood til 11:30 am, in, lunch, #, out to park, met C. Kressal, talked to H&A, out, talked, home, in, read paper, got a Free Press, did writing, out to park at 6:15 pm got a drink , back, met J. Turk, walked around with him looking for 2 girls, no find, to Moon’s Confectionary, N. Murray there, bought one drink, he left, home 11:45 pm, in, read, bed.

July 16, 1931 Thursday weather: clear, warm

up 8 am *, lumber came out, made a sidewalk, in lunch, shaved & washed, out to park, met Nelson, talked, home, in 11pm, Doug Stuart had a terrible row about him & Jessie, in the mixup Dad managed to sock Doug in the eye, Art & I tried to prevent it but he managed it anyways. Doug said he was through & left, good, so we all went to bed at 12 am.

up 8 am * down the basement and bored holes in flower boxes, broke some boxes up, 12pm, read and finished “The Middle of the Road” lunch, read, started “Outlawed” upstairs, did writing, time 12:22pm, down, out to Park saw Bill talking to Lister, taked to Hilda & A, home, read paper, finished book “Outlawed”, supper, out to park, Dick W. Came and we fooled with 2 girls, at 9:45pm met Russ D. To schoolyard & peed, and a woman nearly walked into us, to Union ave, med Dick, talked walked home with Alice and Helen Wolch, to Russ’s place, then home, in, read, Mum and Dad in, talked and then to bed.

July 19 1931 Sunday weather: cloudy rain

up 11:30 am * read til noon, dinner # read and played records all afternoon, supper, up washed & changed, down, out at 7pm to park, met Russ & Ray, girls came but were scared of rain or something, walked around, Russ & Ray took them home, I went home, in, Harold and Rose here, played cards, ate, they left, then bed 12 am

Kressel til 4pm, and to H & A’s home, then home, in, read paper, lit fire up, laid down awhile, supper, out to park, met Russ, Ray, Nelson, home for a sweater, back, fooled around with Lena K. & Helen Wolch & Hazel Firth, at 9pm with Stella & Mary, 9:30pm out with Ann & Harbour at 10:10 pm to Hespeler Ave, then home, in, read & so to bed.

up 7:45 am * # filled wood box, got the ladders, up out, got up on roof, Art & I nailing shingles down, slipped once & nearly fell from roof, worked on roof til 1pm, in, lunch, # laid down til 3:30 pm up, out to park, talked with H&A, home 4:30pm in then out to schoolyard & got key for garage from Art, home, in read Monte Cristo, read paper, supper, Albert here, out, helped him til 7:45pm out to park, met Dick W. & walked a woman to Kelvin with Dick. 10:30pm met Bill H home in read MC til 11;30pm bed.

up 7:45 am * Art and I worked on roof til 1pm, Harold here, took Mum & Dad to City Park, I painted the Lattice on one side green, in, lunch, sewed pants, out to part til 4:30 pm home, in, read, paper, supper Jessie & Art gone out Mum & Dad back then they went to the Roxy Theatre out at 7:30 tried to get dog in, no go, out to park til 9:45pm walked around til 10:30 pm home, in, read, bed.

we had a bad electrical rainstorm in the night. Up 8 am * Mum & Dad gone to Whitemouth (?) With Bob & Lil, I stayed around all day, played crib, supper #, out to park, met Dick W.
