With me, got some beets, home with them, then out collecting donations for rink til 9pm, to Kelvin, and gave money to Bruce Simpson, to Brazier st, talked with Janet M, Margaret B. Til 10:30, Bill gone so home, in, read, bed...

up 9am, dressed, breakfast, washed dishes, fixed back storm door, finished at 12, lunch, Art up, cleared table, Lil washed floor, worked on door til 1;40pm , did writing, out to rink, put up poles til 5pm, home, in read paper, supper, changed out to Robbs Conf to Johnson Ave, to shack rink talked home by 9:30pm read, bed.

October 17, 1934 Wednesday

up 9am, dressed, breakfast, worked on storm door til 11, out to store, back & fixed pipes & windows in basement, lunch, shaved & washed, did writing, out to rink, put 4 more poles in, played football, home, read paper, supper, out to rink shack, had a vegetable fight, throwing cabbages at each other, home, 11pm, Hawthorne friend of Dad’s here; Dad very very drunk, took Norma upstairs, then went to bed.

October 18, 1934 Thursday

up 10:10 am dressed, breakfast, out, got wood, cut things out of the paper for Lil, read Liberty magazine, lunch, Norma gone to school, Dad up, cleared table, out to rink, nothing from Rhoda yet, I wonder when she read my letter & is sore about it, home, slept on couch til 4:30pm , chopped up some bones, read paper, set table, supper, cleared table washed & dried dishes, washed, changed, out to rink, then walked around til 9:30pm to store, talked with Alf Sharp, home, Art in, told me he saw Janet, talked, bed.

October 19, 1934 Friday Weather: cloudy & mild temp at noon +24 F

up 9:30am dressed breakfast, Lil sick, Art and I made a fence to keep coalman & others off grass, then carried in some wood, Dad up, I laid on couch, lunch, washed dishes, did writing, out and fooled around all afternoon, home, 4:30pm, read paper, supper washed dishes, out to Johnson Ave then walked out to EK & back with B. Hartz, to Roxy & talked to Ferris, to Robbs Conf, bought Sunday Mirror paper, then home at 10:30pm, Bob here, read, bed.

up 9:05 am, dressed ,breakfast, cleared table dried dishes, brought wood in, washed kitchen floor, read letter from Rhoda, so wrote letter to her, read News of the World paper from England, Bob here, set table, lunch, cleared table, Bob gone, shaved & washed, did writing, out to Rhoda’s on Winterton Ave, left gladiolas & letter for Rhoda, to schoolyard at Lord Selkirk, played football til 4:30pm, home, read paper, supper, changed, out in Al Henderson’s Ford car, got Bruce Simpson, to Green Briar Inn in the North End, had 8 beers, too much, then B. Hartz and I walked to Stag on Hazeldell Ave for Harold Morton, Hazel was there, coat got muddied, vomitted, laid down awhile, then climbed out the window, they are looking for me so I came in the back door, played cards, Dot King cleaned up my coat for me, home with Janet to Turks, back to party, finally got home at 3:30 am. Bed.

Frost last night, up 9:45 am, dressed breakfast, cleared table, out to garage, chopped wood, fixed the basement window, set table for Lunch, Bob Y. Here, swept floor, laid down, did writing, out to store for tobacco, to rink, talked to some people, home 3:30pm, laid on couch, read Liberty paper, supper, washed, walked out to Kildonan and back, saw Janet, home by 9pm listened to radio, Art in, played crib, 2 games lost both, Dad in at 11pm, talked, bed.

up 9:30 am dressed, breakfast, dishes, brought in wood, read then played 5 games of crib with Art, lost 4, lunch, then read Alice in Wonderland to Norma, up, laid down, read letter from Rhoda, did writing, read Al H’s letters then threw them away, out to rink, played ball, home 4:30pm read, supper did dishes, out to Robb’s Conf. Got Sunday Mirror home, read, J&D here, Bob at 8:15, radio, played crib with Doug Stuart, won 3, Bob, Jessie and Doug gone, Art in, talked went to bed.

up 8am, dressed shaved& washed, breakfast, out to Robb’s Conf, cigarettes to Talbot Ave, then uptown to Eaton’s, walked around met Ivy Hines, talked, also saw Herb A & Reg W, left them and went to Erzinger’s, talked to Albert, then to R Lang bookstore, to Eaton’s, met Joan White, then home by 11:25 am, Dad is bottling beer again, read, lunch, laid down, slept, Bill H here, talked, did writing, no letter from Rhoda, whats the matter I wonder? Supper, washed dishes, walked around, home by 9pm read Liberty, Lil home, gone again, read, then bed.

November 1, 1934 Thursday Weather: clear & cold +36 F

up 8am, dressed, breakfast, Lil has left for Grand Forks, USA, today, no letter from Rhoda, emptied flower boxes, took out ashes, swept & washed kitchen floor, read book, "The Road Back" lunch, Dad talking & sounds as if something could? Happen, did writing, continued letter to Rhoda, but may not post it, if I don’t get one from her soon, out to rink, fooled around til 4:30pm, home, read paper and laid down til 5:30, set table, Art, Dad and I, stayed in Bill H came, radio, Bill gone 10:30pm, Lil back from Grand Forks, talked, bed.

November 2, 1934 Friday Weather cloudy & cool, temp at noon +42 F

up 8am, dressed, breakfast, out to Bill H home, his is not up so wait til 9am, left, walked downtown to Erzinger’s, to Eaton’s to Free Press, back to Eatons, got a lift in Geo French’s car, home, then out to store, got cheese, home, got a letter from Rhoda, today, read it then laid down, changed, lunch, headache but finished letter to Rhoda, mailed it, went to rink, played ball til 4:20pm, met Janet, talked, to Robb’s Conf. Home, read paper, supper, Dad is up and mad about nothing, Art in and we got Dad to bed by 1am, then bed.

November 3 1934 Saturday Weather: cool, temp at noon +32 F

up 8:30 am dressed, Art gone to Rose’s, I washed kitchen floor, dusted furniture, out to barbers for a haircut, home, lunch, out to rink, home, radio, listened to football game, supper, out to party at Reg Williams on Poplar Ave, had a good time, danced with Janet M, also took her home, went back to party, then home at 2:30 am, talked with Dad then to bed.

November 4 1934 Sunday Weather: clear & mild

up 10 am dressed, read awhile, breakfast, out to the schoolyard played football, home at 1:30pm, dinner, Mr Hamilton here to see Dad, out to Giant field, played ball, home at 5pm, Dad very drunk again, supper, out, saw Rhoda on streetcar, then walked with H. Morton to Winterton, to Rhoda’s talked, out with her on streetcar to Cordova Street in River Heights where she is working, left, got home home 11:30pm, sat up with Dad til 2;20am finally got him to bed, bed myself.

up 9:30 am dressed, breakfast, emptied ashes, out to rink, helped putting walls up in shack, home, lunch, Dad is going out, did writing, worked around the rink all afternoon, home, supper, Dad & Lil home, out to EK, fooled around dodging Ellis Hunt then Bill & Ellis had a scuffle in which Ellis broke Bill’s nose, served him right, he asked for it, home 9:45pm, in fixed furnace, got in clothes from line, read, bed.

up 7:45 am, dressed, breakfast, out to bill H by 8:45 am, uptown to eatons, met Kelly R, talked to Herb & Art, K gone to 7th floor toyland, Bill replaced phone & got 10¢, to Ford plant on Portage w. but no jobs, to HBC, to Arctic Ice, missed Bob Y. So home, everything wet, so changed, lunch, laid down, slept, got wood in, did writing, shaved & washed, read paper, supper, brushed overcoat & pants, Bob here, out to Rhoda’s, talked til 11;05pm left, home by 11:30pm, read, ate, bed.
